I have starter this blog so that all those of us who are fed up with Dollar Tree and the crap that they put us through can have a place to vent freely and without any regrets. This will be a blog for all to vent. I want to hear what you guys have to say, especially people that work at DT currently.Your gripes about pay, hours, benefits, sph, payroll, packout etc....
I also want to use this blog to get an idea as to what people at DT are getting paid across the US, so as you post please tell us what you get paid.
Thank you all and happy venting!!!!

7/4/2010 I found this funny being 4th of July and all
What does this say about quality checks the company cant even figure out how many stars the US flag is supposed to have. This is a whole new level of stupid Dollar Tree needs a new CEO and a whole revamp of their business model.
PS I saw a post on here that mentioned a union. I personally think that it is a great idea, a little bargaining power could only help the workers get a fair deal. Union Dollar Tree workers today then Walmart and keep folding retail employees in and all of a sudden we have union shops that I would definitely support fair wages better conditions another idea that could make working retail in America better. There are other retail companies that use unions and those unions should expand and fold in DT workers then we'll see how DT likes abusing their employees.

Thank you!
I would love to spread our voice some more so if you could throw this website up on your Facebook, tell your friends, your coworkers anyone who wants to be heard and hear what we have to say.

Words can not even begin to describe my hatred for Dollar Tree. This is my first job, I've never worked with a cash register so day one: they showed me how to scan and hit the total button and that was it. I HAD NO IDEA WHAT I WAS DOING, i was literally trained for not even three minutes. I kept making mistakes and people kept getting mad, maybe if I was trained properly I wouldn't have been fucking up so much. Okay, during my interview I gave them all 0f the days I was not able to work, within these few months i've been working they'v managed to fuck up my scheduling every fucking week I DON'T FUCKING KNOW WHAT'S SO FUCKING DIFFICULT ABOUT WORKING AROUND PEOPLE'S SCHEDULES and instead of apologizing they call me the nextday to come in and work because they had someone "cover my shift" the following day. WHAT PART OF I CANT WORK ON THESE SPECIFIC DAYS IS SO HARD TO FUCKING UNDERSTAND. I can't wait to quit, I feel I work too hard for too little, they are rude, the employees don't give a shit, do everything half ass, the store is disgusting at this poin i'm ready to quit. I don't even care about making extra money anymoe, that's how miserable dollar tree makes me feel. I'd rather fucking pull out my eyeballs then continue working for this piece of shit company, looking for work? avoid dollar tree at all costs, they always pick on the new guy.
Hey everybody. I am a DT cashier, and for the most part I love my job. The managers are great for the most part, I get along with most coworkers, and I have fun with it and enjoy my time there. However there are some things about working at DT that suck. You'll get that at any job you go to, there's always a negative side, especially with min wage jobs. Here are my complaints:
1. The VOID button:
You're not allowed to use the void button too many times. That means if a customer buys a pile of stuff and then requests to take 5 items off, you're on thin ice. You can get written up for having too many voids. Managers told me it's because of employee theft...workers will scan an item and then void it to sell it to customers for free. Honestly I think that's a load of bullshit, but since people have done it in the past, it's an established rule. I almost always have voids at the end of the day and I'm always told to do less. It's hard when you have dumb ass customers who don't bother to use the item divider, and when you start scanning they'll freak out and be like "THATS NOT MINE." What am I, a fucking mind reader? These people expect me, a random stranger, to know if a group of people are buying together or separately, without using the divider. This causes me to get plenty of voids.
2. Carding people.
I have to fucking card people for whipped cream bottles, since people like to inhale that shit. I will honestly say I bend that rule, because I have kids who buy 1 thing of whipped cream with a bunch of other sugary treats, and why the fuck should I deny them something edible? It's obvious they're buying it for the right purpose. I also have to card for this certain kind of glue, and lighters. I feel kinda silly carding people at a Dollar Store. But it's not that big of a deal.
3. Water bottles.
A new rule recently came up where you aren't allowed to have water bottles at your till. I've been bending that rule ever since. There is a law I believe it's called OCEA that states employees are always allowed to have water with them. Plus, talking to customers all day bagging things in a hot store with no AC can be very dehydrating.
4. Hours
This is something that has bothered me a lot, yet it's not shocking. I started off having 5 day weeks, normally 5 hour shifts, often asked to stick around a half hour after my shift. But then they decided to hire a bunch of new people and I started only getting 3 days a week. Guess what, most of the noobs sucked and quit their jobs, and now my hours are slowly coming back. This week I got 4 days and I covered for a friend for some extra hours. They thought it would be a good idea to hire an abundance of cashiers so everyone would only have to come in 3 or 4 days a week. Only to lose most of the people they recruited. I am already prepared for my hours to rise and fall due to the constant hiring and firing/leaving of employees.
The rest of my complaints are not worth getting into. Just about dumb customers interrupting, asking dumb questions, etc. All of these complaints are minor, as I don't let them effect my happiness and dedication to work. Yeah they get under my skin, some of the rules are fucking stupid, but a job is a job and I am blessed by the universe to have this one. My multi tasking skills improved a lot, as well as my patience and focus. It's nice talking to different kinds of people every day, having random conversations, laughing and enjoying myself as I work. I can still be myself and get paid for doing it. It's not a bad job IMO, but of course it's gonna be corrupt and full of bullshit. It's corporate society.
Hi. I am an employee at DT. I used to believe in my store but I don't now. I was offered an ASM position within a month of starting. I've gotten "stocker of the week" every week. I went thru all the training then corporate denied me the job because of the my driving record. I have a great GM but I don't believe in this company anymore. I understand it's a part time job and floor level positions aren't meant to be a career but still the pay stinks. No option for insurance or benefits. Now our store brought in a new full time ASM who is nice but a terrible manager, doesn't know how to run a store. Now all our freight hours have been cut so our back room is so full we can't even move around back there. The store is loosing money every day because ppl want stuff that's not on the shelf, it's in the back. I guess I feel like this store has screwed me bad. My license is suspended due to some tickets a while back that I can't afford to pay. Meanwhile the past asm had a suspended licence and drove his mom's car to work and to handle bank deposits or took a cab which I offered to do and pay for taxi service out of my own pocket but they said no. My rdm knew I was really upset about all this but Wjen when he was at my store for 2 days during inventory, he never came to talk to me.. maybe it's me but I felt like he should have at least talked to me about this, I never got a definite reason for being denied. All that was on the denial letter was a copy of my driving record. No specific reason stated, I really work my butt off for this company and really feel let down by them. DT makes so much money. My store alone is a 10k-12k a week store so idk why all our freight hours were cut. I'm currently looking for another job. Not that DT would care if I quit but I wish I could let them know they will be loosing a good employee. I tried to explain to my boss that I don't come to work and bust my ass because I'm a nice guy, I do it because I'm trying to move up in the company. I can't blame my GM tho, I feel he did all he could to push the promotion thru for me, I do feel like my rdm could have done more. I won't change my work ethics nor will I become a crappie employee. I will still do my job until I find something better but I no longer care about the company nor do I believe in dollar tree. The rdm's and gm's are the only ones making money.

well ill start by saying i worked in the kempville dt for about 3 months i helped set it up and what did i get for all my hard work i got stuck on cash with 10-15 hours every two weeks i lived 30 mins away and they couldn't even give me suitable shifts im a single mother of two thats a lot of money im spending on gas and childcare. fast forward i now work at dt in carleton place and well its the same im constantly getting told that oh you cant afford a babysitter then this job aint for you oh you cant work that shift this job is not for you like how can i like my job when im always told it is not for me and being told im getting write ups because i was 30 sec late really!!!!! its bs my sm told me i was assistant manager and taught me a few things then she leaves for two weeks and im stuck working 30 hours which was ok i mean more money yay then she comes back and i get demoted to cashier? she says that she never told me i was to have the promotion well funny how its illegal to have two cashiers to open and close why did she have me opening and closing for her if i was not to do that job simple i was being used well no more screw you dt you have not only cost me money i don't have but at the same time im now way over stressed that i had to go to the hospital because my body and mind were two stressed out nice how i put so much work into that place and got smoke blown up my ass!!!!!!!
Yes this company is ridiculous. They only want to promote MEN. Regardless of skills or education. Soon I hope to tell them to take this job and shove it. If you are looking for a career, think again! This company just wants extra hands to do work. Meanwhile they are being ripped of blind. Take a look into how the Big Box retail works. They spend money in order to not lose it. I predict in 10 years this company will no longer exist considering they won't be able to afford to have $1 merchandise by that time.
Because of the nature of this "situation" I am leaving out the location of this DT. My SM in the last 3 months has sexually molested 3 women. I am really curious to see what happens. This happened about a week ago, the SM was suspended and we haven't heard anything since. I got reprimanded for calling in 1 hour before my shift (never received an employee handbook) even though HE was working. He hadn't been suspended yet. Why would DT make someone who is NOT safe at work go. I should have gotten the day off WITH PAY. I have read alot of these posts and its the same thing in the DT I work in, low pay, cashiers doing recovery and having to run back and forth to the register like its your fault you're doing your other work and can't see the damn register. I guess thats all i have to say, its all been said already. oh you people that say get a life, or quit complaining....mind your own business. there are no jobs out there idiots. don't judge unless you've walked a mile in MY shoes.
I had to fight to get my annual raise after they bumped me up to $12 for moving to a high volume race track. They gave me 15 cents. I was on track to move up to SM. I demoted myself to PT so I can finish school. It will never get better with dollar tree. They have to keep prices at a dollar and they're gonna keep cutting from employees to do it. When they inevitably have to raise prices they won't raise wages with it. It is only going to get worse. Find a new job or quit and teach these bastards a lesson. I know I will.
I must say though that up until I demoted myself I had awesome SMs and a great DM who always tried to take care of me as much as possible. Its the upper management that needs to have their balls cut off.
Yes the hours suck, the managers do not due a dam thing, they do not respect the employees as human beings, the pay really sucks. It's a job you bring home a check my not help much but it helps. Your compling so much , but yet your still working there. Grow up people be grateful you have a job if you don't like it get a different one simple as that. Thank you
Look, I was a SM for 11 years. The job is demanding but I loved it. I mean, I REALLY loved my job. My employees were appreciated, and they were phenomenal. I have to say, it's not the Manager's fault about the hours, Corporate drilled us to not go above 15 hours for part timers. It never worked, of course. I don't know who they think will stick around for 15 hours a week. It is not getting any better, either. The payroll has been chopped to bare minimum so the few people working have to do alot more. It is not better at other companies, either, just that at some you would probably get more hours. I just took a new job at another company making alot more. Also, killing us at Christmas time was unfair. All Managers working 6 days, these monstrous trucks with no payroll to put them out. My philosophy is take care of your people. Happy employees are good employees. That doesn't mean give 30 hours to the girl up front with an attitude that never s lls any drive items. it took me a year to say yes to the other company and I still talk to my old employees. WE do the best with what we're given. Hope this helps.
Hello this is am of dollar tree stores I have bean experiencing this same type of treatment at dollar tree if the moderator of this site could leave a comment with his email adress I would love to contact you regarding making this site into a android application where users can express there concerns this application would be targeting the 2.5 billion android users I feel this site needs more exposure to make this corporation understand that can't just walk all over there employees
Hi im a part-time associate working as a recovery person. Its my third day in and I hate it. My SM says that he wants me to be able to recover half the store in 4 hours. Is this normal? He says theres a fine line between being neat and knowing when to move on. WTF!!! He wants the isles to look neat and full. Well you cant expect me to get half the store done in 4 hours. Its not possible. I feel like im living in the twilight zone. Anyone else have this problem for recovery.
DT in Booneville, MS is terrible. Employee turnover is unbelievalbe. All employees need to be drug tested. I heard manager on the phone the other day buying pills. This place needs to be shut down.
I have been working as an SM for about a year & a half at a DT in New England. A company that exploits low income hard on your luck people. I didnt realize how much until I worked there. I have always considered myself professional & hard working. Ready for any challenge. This was a different story. This was an impossiblity! In my past jobs I have always treated my staff with dignity and respect and learned long ago this type of challenge of asking monumental tasks of everyone every "second", all employees must be appreciated. Especially since the entire staff is on assistance & is not paid a liveable wage. This was not to be. I never considered myself as a "quitter", however, today I was sent home early after giving my two weeks notice after quitting. My DM said it made her nervous having me there. I knew it would happen after the way my staff & I were treated. I did quit, The demands of this company are outrageous and unrealistic. I could not stand it any longer. I have overcome many difficult challenges throughout my 25 plus retail years. It just doesnt equate. The formula they give you to get the job done is obviously a tool to intimidate and suck as much productivity out of everyone that works there with absolutely no praise. It is always obvious they feel that they can easily replace you. I cant beleive they get away with this but they do. I can only hope the staff I have worked with can also move on and find a better situation. Today, I walk away hoping never to have to be a part of that type of disrespect again. The people who run this hell hole need to wake up. This can only go on so long before people revolt. Maybe running Family Dollar will do them in. I will not miss my Christmas bonus of one box of cookies to share with the staff. F**K you DT. Kiss my ASS. What goes around comes around.
My names are Taisia Joan am from USA i want to use this opportunity to thank my great doctor who really made my life a pleasurable one today. This great Doctor brought my husband back to me, i had 3 lovely kids for my husband, about 3 years ago i and my husband has been into one quarrel or the other until he finally left me for one lady. i felt my life was over and my kids thought then will never see their father again. i tried to be strong just for the kids but i couldn’t control the pains that torments my heart, my heart was filled with sorrows and pains because i was really in love with my husband. Every day and night i think of him and i always wish he will come back to me, until one day i met a good friend of mine that was also in a situation like me but her problem was her ex-boyfriend who she had an unwanted pregnancy for and he refused to take responsibility and dumped her. she told me that mine was a small case and that i shouldn’t worry about it at all so i asked her what was the solution to my problems and she gave me this great man phone number and his email address. i was doubting if this man was the solution, so i contacted this great man and he told me what to do and i deed them all, he told me to wait for just seven days and that my husband will come crawling on his kneels just for forgiveness so i faithfully deed what this great man asked me to do and for sure after four days i heard a knock on the door, in a great surprise i saw him on his kneels and i was speechless, when he saw me, all he did was crying and asking me for forgiveness, from that day, all the pains and sorrows in my heart flew away, since then i and my husband and our lovely kids are happy.that is why i want to say a big thanks to Dr iayaryi. My name is Cami LEOKI, from Canada USA. I never believed in love spells or magic until I met this spell caster once when i went to see my friend in Indian this year on a business summit. I meant a man who’s name is Prophet Lord he is really powerful and could help cast spells to bring back one’s gone, lost, misbehaving lover and magic money spell or spell for a good job or luck spell .I’m now happy & a living testimony cos the man i had wanted to marry left me 3weeks before our wedding and my life was upside down cos our relationship has been on for 3years. I really loved him, but his mother was against us and he had no good paying job. So when i met this spell caster, i told him what happened and explained the situation of things to him. At first i was undecided, skeptical and doubtful, but i just gave it a try. And in 7 days when i returned to Canada, my boyfriend (now husband) called me by himself and came to me apologizing that everything had been settled with his mom and family and he got a new job interview so we should get married. I didn’t believe it cos the spell caster only asked for my name and my boyfriends name and all i wanted him to do. Well we are happily married now and we are expecting our little kid, and my husband also got the new job and our lives became much better. His email is: solutionoflovespelltemple@gmail.com. How do you access associate handbook?
I finally found a page I can vent on. We all have about the same kind of complaints. I've been employed by DT for almost 8 years. I'm on my 7th manager. I've never had any problems with getting my days off in December and he pulls me into the office and say your not allowed to take days off in the 4th quater. Said to him i get them off every year with no problem. Anyways, I came home to look at the handbook and all I can find is about the AM and SM. Nothing about Cashiers. Does anyone, know the correct answer? Also,I'm told that I haven't been calling for my voids until 4-5 people afterworld. The thing is I call but, Why do my customers have to wait cause you don't come out right away so I got in trouble for that. So, now I'm not to take the next customer until he comes out and does my post void. Also, only 3 line voids allowed and that's just pure BS!! People change there minds are the time, I'm only making 8.33 after almost 8 years. People are just starting out and making more than me. Also, one of the girls left to go to another store well her manager Bill got her a dollar raise. She got it!! So, when I asked for mine I was told I can't do it anymore it's automatic now. I just feel like why bother anymore! I will play your games and be a slow ass cashier, unfriendly like everyone else that works at the store. You would think after all the compliments I get on my customer service, how friendly I am and nice. How I help out. You would think they would take all that into consideration. But nooooooo!!! Also, we are a red flag store and our last manager was with the company for 15 years and all of a sudden we were 90,000 short in stock. So, I guess the company thinks since we worked with him we are just as guilty. Anyways, when we leave we have to be walked out and then stand there while are bags get checked it's very very humiliating even though the customer joke around and I just laugh back but, it's not funny!! I don't mind doing it but why do you have to do at the front door where everyone can see!!! So much more but this is a start. Thanks for letting me vent some
Anyone know when 2014 w2s will be available online? Ever since I quit they won't tell me crap
Yeah. Dolla Treeeeeee sucks! They demolished my house and poisoned my water supply. I still buy stuff there though, but to get back at them for demolishing my house and poisoning my water supply, I told my girlfriend that her love is my dollar tree because dollar tree gives you crappy things for cheap.
I just started working at DT almost a month ago. Store opened and same ol story. All stupid incompetent ppl. ASM who say I'm not doing that. Sexist remarks. Nobody comes in. No calls no show and they just keep on working there. They brag about how great a worker I am but I am lucky if I get 12 hrs wk. Schedules are made for 2 weeks but I don't know why. We r lucky if we're called to be told our shift was cut due to DSM cutting all his stores. whatever. then managers come to work and nobody is there to work with them so me or someone else is called and they ask to jump and run there. No communication. Truck came late so they called to see if i could come @ 6 am. I said i'll take 730 to 1230. got another call relaying message from manager asking to do 630 am instead of 730. Fine i agree,,to guess what. No one there. No one told the assistant manager to be there. So i woke up at 4 am to be there to waste my time and gas. Not even a month and it's a joke. Time to do applications. kGood luck all of u and I'll pray something is done or we find a beter place.
Just got hired. First day on the job the store manager was not there. did not tell any managers of my hire. Scrambling to figure out what to do with me. I was not in the system, couldnt clock in. I applied as cashier, she told me i was going to be stocking freight, i show up to unload the truck. Nobody i worked with had been trained. oh... the manager got an hour of training that's it and didnt know any flow. "all the boxes have images that go on the u-boats". okay, that's easy..except they dont. some have numbers. 32 goes on 32! ok.. No not that 32 that goes there! oh duh.. so stupid. is this normal? Lowe's has training on the computer. even for simple things like watering. You watch all those videos before you get hired. I can't even youtube DollarTree tips for jobs. there are outdated contradiction messages all over the place. like looking on the signages on the doors in the freight room tell me how to do stuff. I'm like OK, so I keep my U-boat in arms reach. The store manager hates that, im blocking the isle now. okay so I keep it in the main isles like a slob and wonder around back and forth after EVERY BOX because they're paranoid of tripping hazards.
Every day I'm assigned a new section. so you know what my time goes into? fixing everyone elses fuck ups. seems like all they fucking care about is this "Goal" of 30+ cases unboxed an hour. okay that would be easy if I fucking knew where shit went or things weren't unpacked fucking randomly. don't even get me started on the kitchen essentials wall. every fucking day people ask me to reach things that were hung 10 feet in the fucking air. where are the utensils? in bins that are covered in recovery items that none of the cashiers fucking deal with. GOD FORBID I TOUCH THEM THOUGH that goes against my job and "less time stocking". ohh but im sure the guy before me that shoved the dish detergent in random ass spots met his goal...yeah right.
I can't wait to get my $150 amazon gift card after working there for FIFTEEN YEARS. talk about retirement.
I am leaving my job at Dollar Tree. I have been working there for almost a year now.
When I first started, it was great. I cashiered, I promoted the drive items, once in a while I'd help with freight (but not very often), and there was always something to do. Overall, the job was satisfying, and I felt like I was getting along with my coworkers and managers.
At first The managers were supportive; but that all changed.
I began to get blamed for things I didn't do. One day my manager walks up and says "You know we're supposed to only have one stack of baskets, right? every time you're here, there's always 2 stacks." Another time, the motion censor frogs were going off on my counter, and I cover one of them with a bag. A manager walks up and notices the crumpled bag and says "Are you the one who keeps doing this? Someone keeps leaving loose bags all under the registers." Before I could say anything she stormed off. I am always the one putting the loose bags back on the bag holder. Yet I was the one being blamed for doing the opposite.
When I asked questions, the way my managers would react made me feel like I was stupid. I began to feel insecure and hesitant to ask questions because I was treated like I was dumb. The tone of their voices and their expressions when they answered me...it was just rude. It's hard to not ask questions when I don't shop at DT often, I'm mostly on front register, and I constantly have customers asking for items I am unsure of.
One manager got irritated at me because I wanted to weigh my till to make sure it was correct, because I traded out twenties for some fives during a rush, and thought I miscounted. When I asked, he got irritated with me...even though I was once told "If you ever need to double check on your till for any reason let us know."
99% of the time I was main cashier, meanwhile the new hires were getting trained on freight even though I've barely done that. I was rarely given an opportunity to do anything different.
I got yelled at for taking expired sodas out of the coolers. I was rotating them like I was supposed to, and kept finding sodas that expired months ago. The manager yells "what are you doing?!" I say "we can't sell expired sodas to customers." He proceeded to tell me to make a note for one of the managers next time, because I still had a bunch of stuff to get done that night. I didn't get any recognition or thanks for picking up other people's slack. Just treated like crap.
I know what part time means, and I wasn't expecting super good hours. when I was hired I was told, if I work hard, I'll get more hours. Of course that was a lie. I had a 6 day week lined up, and then they go and hire 2 new people, and then I end up only working 3 days because those shifts had to be given to them. And even after the new people got hired, my hours were still at 15-20 hours a week. I was lucky to get 25, and there was no way I could get beyond 25 unless I was called in.
I felt like my hard work went down the drain. I've had customers tell me I deserve a raise, that I'm a wonderful cashier, and I go beyond the expectations for customer service, and yet it doesn't get me anywhere. No raise, no increase of hours, no offer for ASM position, nothing. none of my efforts mattered. I used to be all about Dollar Tree and I wanted to be manager there. But I can see how miserable it is...I mean if they are going to be rude/cold, then they're obviously unhappy with their job. I don't want to end up like them.
This is the kind of job that's good for an 18 year old who is just starting out, who isn't paying bills. Otherwise you're better off moving on to something else.
You are so right. I currently work there and I'm new there but every time I go there I just get threatened that I'm gonna get a wire up for thus a write up for that. I hope and pray I find a job before they fire me. I'm very heart broken and sad because they didn't give me the chance to finish I learn program so I'm still struggling at the cash register. . It's painful to go to work and feeling intimidated as scared to death to come in to work at dollar tree.
To the comment above me, I'm sorry about your situation. Start looking for a new job, and in the meantime, just do the best you can at Dollar Tree. That's the only thing required of you at any job is to do your best at everything you do. The rule is, 3 write ups and you're fired, and write ups stay on your record as long as you remain with Dollar Tree. Under or above 3 dollars on your till, and you get written up. Stupid, I know. but once you get the hang of the cash register, it becomes very easy. And if you get your first write-up, don't panic. Most employees and managers have at least one.
When I first started with dollar tree, something about the company really intrigued me. I liked how it's a discount store that has all kinds of items that help people with low income, food stamps, and budgets. I liked how they do donation drive items for local companies/people in need. Since I like helping people, I had it in my head that this was my kind of job. but then the corporate policies, my managers, my coworkers, and everything else about Dollar Tree all showed their true colors, and I realized it wasn't what I had it fetched out to be.
Most of the items are defective...I mean duh it's a dollar a lot of stuff there is gonna suck...but I started to no longer feel like I was helping people by selling them shit merchandise that they often come back to exchange, along with asking them to buy a crappy item for the donation drive. None of the managers had any heart in it. They were just like "ask every customer if they want to help with the drive, get as many as you can." And then they write down how many you get at the end of the day. It was more about keeping record of who was selling more...rather than the cause itself.
You are not allowed to waite on your friends, family, spouse, etc. You have to tell them to go in a different line because employees have helped their close ones steal in the past. You can't have too many voids because people have also used that button as a stealing mechanism...by scanning an item, voiding it, and putting it in the bag. There never seems to be enough staff in the store due to the hour cuts and how they are stingy on how many people are present during each shift. They give you tasks to accomplish that can barely ever get done due to how busy it gets. The main cashier can only do so much, and the 2nd cashier has to run from his register as soon as the line dies down so he can finish his tasks...and 5 minutes later 10 people are in line, so he gets called up to cashier again. There's so much to do in this place but so much goes undone because there aren't enough people around to help.
You don't get much credit for working your butt off, and your hours will continue to get cut no matter how far you go to please the customer and get all of your work done. It gets you nowhere. Trust me I've had customers tell me I should be manager and I should get a raise, and I am a good worker...and even though that was nice, it didn't get me anywhere. Even ASMs are barely full time, getting a little under 40 hours a week. And it takes a lot of time to climb up the latter to be a SM...any high position in Dollar Tree is not worth it, and is not much higher up to begin with.
Take this job as a learning experience and try to make the best of it. But I mean it when I say find something else ASAP.

I hate Dollar Tree sooooooooo much!!!!!!!!!!!
I was part of a crew here in Washington DC that opened a new store on Minnesota Ave NE. Wow. The thing about this company is that they know how they operate is bullshit. They just don't care. The dude Jerry , SM, is apart of this roving band of grifters called Dollar Tree. I was going to post a very hatefully worded message about these crooks but I will do use every resource available to expose this exploitation of low-income workers. You see, I drank the Kool-Aid and believed in the performance they put on at orientation. I mean it was good. Ralph gave a speech that was Oscar worthy. Cause he was peddling straight up bullshit. Talking about the advancement of the employees depend on how we perform? Absolute bullshit again. The only two black managers at orientation seem to be the most uninterested and quiet. Probably cause they knew were lying . no set schedules people stick to. I've worked other jobs before. My attitude going into this job was a humble one : "If you're going to do a job, do it well. Because most times won't be good enough by half. Jerry and Jeanine don't give a Shit about that, neither do the people in the room that day. They hire low-income workers to build the place then cut most of them when the store opens. Then play a bunch of head games trying to take as much as they can from you. I've seen crackheads sweating bullets moving slow as Hell on a 13 panel truck. Then walk off the job to smoke crack in the parking lot.Never to return to work, drop a stem on the way off the lot. All on camera. What does jughead Jerry do? Puts him back on the schedule. If I had a video of some of the bullshit I've seen ookn the graveyard shifts I would send that to Fox news ASAP. Dollar Tree is a corporation run by old as frat boys who know how to sell hard up job seekers the bullshit. Job promotion is not a meritocracy. It's based on who they party with. Great place to work if you're looking for beer money. But I don't know how they ask grown men and women to actually live off of 10 hours a week. As a man it's really disgusting to see dudes act like whiny punks on a job. Fucking disgrace
Another thing I've noticed at Minnesota Ave Ne DC Dollar Tree . Dollar Tree is designed for dysfunction. Everything from the false truck numbers. The funky schedule. 10 minute break for 5 hours shift? The constant complaints about things the store manager can check on tape. Things that constantly undermine employee performance. Why not hire and assemble an efficient crew of stockers that can follow orders, instead of hiring people who slack off while one or two people hustle? The dysfunction is a sick joke to the devils at Chesapeake.
You know you're working at a Shit show when the stock manager says "you weren't supposed to be here this long." Management doesn't plan to keep stockers very no matter how hard they work." Really? so the plan is to just keep people at 10 hours so they will get frustrated and quit , or take them off the schedule? This company is a disgrace to this country . Real Talk. The night stockers at the Minnesota Avenue DT who slack off, show up to work high and talk sh-t about the REAL WORKERS. Are likely to get consistent shifts. As much as I here people complain about Wal-Mart management. It can't be worse than Dollar Tree. I did meet some good people there, but the management is determined to keep the scumbags and loose women who don't work around to poison the place.
DT Canada is/was under investigation by the Ontario Ministry of Labor through 2015 in Canada. The company was found GUILTY on seven different labor violations. Those violations were mostly in relation to failure to pay overtime, refusal to pay overtime, failure to properly track staff hours, failure to provide breaks, excess hours, etc. Not only that the director of DT in the province of Ontario, Mr. Jeff Webb labeled three Eastern Ontario store managers as "disappointing hires" even though 2 of those three stores run by those managers were doing very well, one was almost always in the top three performing stores, but those three managers stood up against the abuses hence being labeled that way. Shelagh Male runs the district as a "district manager" and is a bully and lies and pits staff against each other, the woman is a total sociopath. Both Jeff and Shelagh SHOULD be removed from their positions as they do not deserve to be in them. The company is a total joke, the managers that stand up for themselves or the staff in their stores are bullied, threatened, or dismissed on bullshit terms. The company hired a big law firm out of Toronto called "Fasken & Martineau LLP" in order to defend themselves and continue the abusive practices they engage in. If your thinking of working for Dollar Tree Canada, reconsider, if your a staffer on the floor you can expect no more than 15 hours a week, good luck surviving on that, if your unlucky enough to be a manager, expect to work 70+ hours a week for 35000 per year, and even though they were caught not paying OT they will STILL attempt to screw you out of it. If you make a peep about the excess hours Jeff and the DM WILL make your life miserable until you either quit, or they can fire you. DO NOT WORK FOR THESE BASTARDS. Work anywhere else if you can, or you will regret your decision.
Dollar Tree in waterford, mi is so full of it that really it's indescribable. First of all they can't keep any employees. I've been there a whole "long" three months and have been there longer than Any other cashier. That says a whole lot right there. They give us like barely any hours then cut them in the middle of the week to leave me with 15 hours. Mind u its holiday season for them. And the rest of the cashier's get like 10 hours some only 5. Meanwhile they just hired 4 new cashier's and still have a help wanted sign. Looking at the schedule with the cut hours on it, it's so rediculous they don't need any cashier's at all just AM's and freight managers. Oh and they don't need stockers either because they have an employee in there working constantly off the clock. who has been doing it for like a year. Oh, which by the way is super illegal. So it be best they just lay us all off. But of course there not gonna do us any favors. Bottom line is that it has come to my conclusion that it's pointless to be a good employee for dollar tree if u r an associate because they could care less. It looks to me as if they r proud of there high turn over. Ive tried, I'm a great employee but now am just completely fed up.

Don't ever get hurt you work your ass off, you get hurt they treat you like shit, don't speak, accuse you of lying and they suck ass!
Im an associate at a dollar tree, and at first I really did like, but after that it became a pain in my ass, the store manager is alright, but i seriously can't stand the rules, if your over or under 3 dollars you get a write up! and if you have 3 write ups your fired! and my co-workers try real hard to not go over or under 3 dollars and that stupid money counting machines screws up often!!! and when the employees their go over or under 3 dollars, they start panicking and the computers freeze from time to time, there is a cricket store close to my work and the manager asked me to apply, so im really going to consider on quitting and get a new job. Its not worth 10.30 an hour to deal with all this shit!!
I worked at a couple dollar trees. The other employees and a manager encouraged me to do drugs. The manager also condoned stealing from the store to other employees. They sell things that are bad for your health there but no one will listen to reason and stop because they are all on drugs.
I worked at DT for a year and about 7 months. I enjoyed my work and many of the customers who were regulars knew me well. At first it was amazing, I had a temp. Manager who knew what she was doing. I Had Great CO Workers Who I Got Along Well With and for the most part it was a great experience. That all changed about after the Ralph next to us closed. Since we didn't get of the foot traffic that the store beside us had provided we got less customers so less hours. Okay, that's understandable. What isn't is when I still have at least half a hour left on the clock and then told to just clock out. The shifts are few already but now you want me to clock out early too? Bs. Then then our two head managers were just dicks. The hiring/scheduleing manager was horrible! She would change the schedule without informing us, she would belittle us and make us feel horrible whenever we asked her to help with a long line, the second was a guy who was just as bad. Ask him to help out? "Sure but you have to be faster!" Dude, I'm taking three customers at a time compared to your one and I even know what to do when you don't : what do we do with the left over products? Find a space with them with the others or put them up as displays.
And it is true what some say about staffing, they can replace you with a snap of the finger and when you work there, you're more less alone all the time. One time I was stocking, cleaning, and cashier by myself. I got to get more change from the manager and what do I hear? Her working hard on papers? Calling corporate to ask to have someone fix the power issue? Checking on orders or at the very least trying to figure out who to hire? No. She's playing candy crush. I'm out there, working, we had came in at the same tine, and she's playing freaking candy crush.
I'm so glad I quit there, even through money is tight I rather be working at a place that HELPS their employees rather than one where the manager threatens your job if you can't pick up her slack.
working there 15 years for a $150 amazon gift card is a fucking joke insult gift hahahahaha!
It's probably the best 1st time J.O.B. (Just Over Broke) a kid could have. I mean being a stocker you don;t have to do price tags, right? You don't exactly have a SET place to put anything, right? You just gotta use your head and make stuff fit! Freedom! I mean, come on! Being a cashier you don't need to know prices because EVERYTHING'S A DOLLAR..It can be really great!
The issues is quite often goal-less people stay here and it can really wear on a person because the pay is literally minimal...because look dude, look what you're doing! Come on! Stay while it's enjoyable and move on! Sure people can be great here. People can be great everywhere. Take Dollar Tree for what it is: An awesome first time job for a while for something to put on your resume for Safeway, Albertson's, Fred Meyer, or whatever grocery store or retailer.
Um, they sell items that are a dollar apiece so what do you expect? go work at Apple
"My husband says all of you complaining should of stayed in school so you don't have to deal with a mess." Lady who posted this. Your husband is a douchebag, you should have married someone else. I worked at dollar tree for 8 months. That was the most miserable 8 months of my life. That's all I have to say about that.
I was hired as a cashier, 4 days later offered an assistant manager position based on my prior employment supervisor qualifications Proved my responsibility and competency within a week. Then that was it, I was on my own...LITERALLY! Between Aug. to Dec. I was the only manager running that store from noon to closing everyday.
Continued from above comment.......... I would seriously come in to work shifts on my day off for the other manager who was having serious family issues. I was 100 percent committed to this job. But slowly my motivation and drive diminished. I was headed for a major job burnout that I never saw coming but felt it everyday in my mind and body more and more. Between public meltdowns over ridiculous amount of tasks that I was expected to accomplish. Coworkers that were shady as fuck but had no proof, other than being solely responsible for the missing money at the end of my night closing shift which was always a guarantee freak out for me because I knew what I did but the only other employee I worked with on a night shift, who fuck knows what they did other than the obvious missing money. Which if i asked them about it I was wrongly accusing them and therefore I was a mean fucked up supervisor. So Id end up putting my own money in to balance out the deposit so I didnt get the next day backlash of why was deposit 1.00 short last night. Ya over about a year and a half being the only night shift manager I have probably givin dollar tree over 2,000 dollars of my own money because trying to get to the bottom of where the missing money was not even worth it and making that deposit balance in the 15 minutes they give the night manager to do ...ya putting in my own money was always the better choice...WHO DOES THAT RIGHT!!! HAHAHHA well after Dec. the real manager that was on her 5th medical leave in her 5 year SM run finally came back. The temporary SM that I never saw except when I was called in to work early or when other coworkers would gossip about me or when they needed a educated, witty, and the store scapegoat manager to explain situations that would stump the temp SM because she was only a ASM that was moved to temp SM because of the real SM emergency medical leave. Also I was the only manager running that place from noon to 9pm daily so I was always the one who knew what went on, who did what, where anything was, and lets not forget I SERIOUSLY WAS THE ONLY NEW HIRE TRAINER!! Yep thats right the other 2 managers who worked there for 4 plus years and me only 6 months I was responsible for training new employees....OMG what a joke that was. Again my educated and witty personality and proven ability to be consistent and throughout is the only thing that I had to work with because I had no training of the real dollar tree training structure book that sits in the office collecting dust. I winged it most of the time but when money was off that shit was obvious because only a one other employee and myself was working after the count off was passed to me at the start of my shift....OH GOODTIMES! I slowly gained weight from the stress and lack of time to eat anything other than dollar tree crap. My home life went to shit because I was only there to sleep, and get ready for work. I never had any money because literally my monthly income only was ever enough for my rent and utilities. My friends and family would be accustom to automatically coming to my work to see me instead of my home. And then my knee injury happend.
Continued from comment above......Yep by moving freight that was way over my ability and the thousands of miles I walked around in one of the biggest dollar tree stores in my state, I tore my meniscus ligament in my knee.My weight and over use was the main corr-put but my constant pivoting of my knee's form the excessive amount of workload I was expected to do SOLELY!! well it was what made my career at dollar tree drama center pretty much end. Medical leave outta the question...help from coworkers to lighten my overkill workload that I was expected to to daily...oh hell now thats my shit not anyone elses...and finally asking the DM for advice on what I should do because my knee was getting worse, and I was a crabby little bitch and stoped letting everyone put the whole stores bullshit on my shoulders and stood up to the other people running that store. Which only let me to give the DM a major headache and he eventually planned out a shady as fuck plan to replace me and get me to step down when I reluctantly did I tried to be a cashier...OMG really...that would have been unrealistic to succeed at to any establishment when the best manager was forced to demote themselves then be put in a position where the status of a manger was still real for the customers and the fellow coworkers who depended on me daily for leadership for almost everyday for almost a year and a half. And so finally when I was blamed for situations that I had no authority over and I knew who was reason for but being a regualr worker choosing to rat out your fellow cashier right next to you instead of the manager position I was used to when dealing with wrongful situations being done by coworkers.. sorry but ya I was not even gonna be that employee....And trying to talk to the other managers that once relied on my work ethic to smooth out problems that were thier problems well I was talked about negatively behind my back..judged harshly and well ya pretty much became the most hated coworker there. When less than a week ago I was the only one anyone could depend on for stability and answers for everything that pretty much went on from noon to 9pm everyday ...So I called in after never doing so the whole year and a half I worked there. I called in sick which omg I was the biggest shady liar ever to work there when I did this...HAHAHHA I seriously was so stressed and physically done from a classic case of WORKPLACE BURNOUT CAUSED BY EXTREME CHRONIC STRESS AND A MEDICAL INJURY THAT WAS WORK RELATED BUT NEVER REPORTED BECAUSE OF FEAR OF INTIMIDATION! And now being unemployed for 6 months. There are seriously no places hiring in the small town I live in and I lost my home had to move in with a friend and ive been poverty poor which has turned me into a recluse who goes no where and doesnt talk to no one. And to top it all off, I humbly asked for my job back and I was told that since I gave no two week notice that Im blacklisted as a rehire!! OMG I HOPE THAT I DONT END UP EVENTUALLY BEGGING FOR MY JOB BACK BECAUSE I HAVE BEEN STUCK IN THE DOLLAR...... TREEHOUSE where theres no freedom of escaping!! So ya thats my story...My advice dont apply to work at a local Dollartree because there is a possibility that you can enter the hell but you will never leave it or be the same person you once were before you sold your soul to the devil! FML
tell your husband, people have degrees and GRADUATED FROM SCHOOL and they STILL work here
and tell him to shut his mouth and mind his own business
I'm sick of this 10 minute break crap. Other places give 15. I mean I have to hold my pee fort HOURS at a register and the bitch Manager doesnt bother giving me the key or pretends not to have it.
There goes my break!
I dont understand why I have to come on my day off just to check a schedule! Why cant they email it? It's so frustrating to guess which first days of the weeks I should go in and which not to. And they dont even have a baler in our location. Corporate comes in every day and they dont even care!
I just started working @ one of the Dollar trees in Tyler Texas and they are cheap and SM says she pays more than others wow a whole $7.35 and I stock mind you that sucks I break my back I have been dependable for a week now I even trained to cashier only because someone didnt show up, but yea the pay sucks especially for stocking? We should atleast get $8 to $9 an hour if only woring 4 hours, whats up with that not enough to pay shit when its only 15 hours aweek, what a fucking joke they are, and then keep hiring people. I bust my ass for nothing then you under pressure because you have so much you have to put out with in a certain amount of time, I work @ my pase, what a fucking joke they are.
I worked for Dollar Tree for nearly 5 years, and was surprised to get 2 weeks vacation pay before completing the 5 years. I was an Assistant Operations Manager, and took the first of those two weeks in the middle of April. Two weeks later when I was paid, it seemed rather small for a paycheck. Therefore, I checked the system. I was not paid for my vacation.
When I approached my store manager, he call the DM, who told him to go into the system to fix it. The manager told me to go in and fix it. He was already being moved to another store. Basically, he did not care if I got paid or not. Anyway, the day after was my last day because I knew I wasn't going to get paid, and I don't see them paying me for my last two weeks for leaving the way I did. That really sucks too because that would have been my check with a bonus.
I was really hoping to retire from Dollar Tree, but after not being promoted to store manager four times, I realized they did not have much faith in me.
I am the only AM in the store who would work off the clock in order to complete my shift. My Operations Manager started leaving his shifts early months ago, because he was "tired." Hell, I was tired from doing my job, my manager's job, and his job. This is the most thankless place to work for in my opinion.
I worked for dollar tree for eight years and I went through six store managers at my location in the past two years. My new DM is my old store manager I used to look up to her but she showed her true colors . Maria lamas Profiles my stockers saying she doesn't look like a stocker ! I asked if it was her race, sex, age and she straight out told me she doesn't look like a stocker and she cant stand my stocker she never seen work before. My New store Manager is racist and she comes on to all the female staff member ! if you don't let her touch you , well she will try to make your life hell. I show my Dm Maria the text messages she send me and told me it was a joke. first she said i know you did a lot for this store , but you're not working with us, you need to be flexible . I have came in on my day off and work with the new schedule changes but what more they want ? And my new store manager changes the schedule everyday and wants every employee to come in and check the schedule daily. And don't get me started with the raises.

i been with the company for many years. I never had a problem until now. I am a part time manager but doing full time hours does that make any sence ? I fill in for when managers go out on vacation or someone quits until we get a new manager. I really never had a problem with it until now . We are down a manager again. I was told i was not allowed to request mothers day off because we were short handed so i just worked that day. Now its about 3 weeks later and we still waiting for a new manager. I went into work on a friday saw my new schedule for the week i planned my days off went into work a day later and saw i had to work 38hrs all week because the other manager took a week vacation and i was never informed of this change i made my plans for the week and now i have to change everything. The problem is that i was disrespected from my boss i hurts very much because i do everything im told , never took a day off from work only for my operation last summer other then that i never call out sick not in the 8yrs i been there . I am a part time manager not full time 5 hr day shifts not 8 to 10 hrs a day two days off not one or none i am tired of being treated like this and it is time i need to stand up for myself Dollar tree is not that bad depending where you work and who the boss is just need to get some respect for the workers
That would be a good idea. We always say at the dtree I work at that we love the people we work with, but hate corporate and the job and wages. We cheer for coworkers who are finally escaping and getting out. I have been applying other places. I need out.
I guess I should feel lucky I worked at a Distribution Center rather than a store, since I've heard almost nothing but bad news with the stores.
Don't let Dollar Tree fool you, because it is all the same crap and BS whether you're working a store, distribution center, or a corporate office.
Being a former associate at a Distribution Center, I noticed the high turnover rate, high amounts of stress, shuffling of employees etc etc etc. I would argue that due to warehouse jobs being technically more difficult than retail store jobs on average, turnover rate is likely even higher than that at the stores. I was fired for being late 30 seconds, 1 minute late.
There is a peak season period where all Distribution Centers have to buckle up and work overtime for roughly four, five months straight. This means 50, 60+ hour work weeks, usually more depending on the volume. Whereas most Dollar Tree stores give their employees well less than 40 hours a week, distribution centers will work their employees to death. I did my best to reach above quota for my department and bust my ass every weekday to get noticed and be complimented by the managers. That was not enough to ensure that I was going to keep my job. In fact it was an accumulation of sick days due to the working conditions of working month after month of constant overtime. All that was needed was a couple of tardy days, because a strenuous physical job like the one I had to endure for two years straight will make your body sore and stressed out. Regardless I was fired, because if you're not the perfect attendance employee, Dollar Tree doesn't want you.
The place I worked was usually trashed. Broken pallets, nails sticking out of boards in the breezeways waiting to be stepped on, safety hazards all over the place, shrink wrap mixed in with pallets in pallet drop locations, the list goes on. Most of the pallet jacks and other pieces of equipment needed to get the day to day jobs done were old and broken. Since Dollar Tree didn't give a shit how old and broken down their equipment was, it costs more to keep the old equipment than to buy new equipment over the long term. It is more often than not that older equipment, especially equipment used in a warehouse increases the risk of injury due to said equipment being worn out.
I had seen three different general managers in my two years of work there. The first one was reasonable, she gave out 10, 20 minute meetings every week with a Grassroots meeting every month that lasted 30, 40 minutes. Then due to various issues she had left, being replaced by a general manager who had been there on quick notice, because nobody had stepped up to take the position. The current general manager who is still at the distribution center was often gone for days at a time, usually due to business matters which in the end made no difference on the employees.
Incompetent management and me busting ass every single day, eventually I stopped caring. Prior to my termination the shift I worked had seen a huge reduction in employees in the department I was in. That department is now badly understaffed and as of today the distribution center is forcing the current employees for the department to work 55, 60 hour weeks. As far as I'm concerned the warehouse is still a mess, people are getting fired for ridiculous reasons, and it just keeps going downhill. Write ups do NOT fall off until an entire year. Write ups I accumulated many months prior to my termination were still on my record. Perfect attendance is really the only way to get rid of write ups. An associate getting five years perfect attendance is given one week of paid-time off. What a joke.
Their rewards system may as well be a joke all in itself for the long term employees. Apparently 35 years of service gives you a $350 Amazon Gift Card. No one I know in their right mind would work 35 years doing a stressful, physical labor job, especially for a company such as Dollar Tree that continues to screw people over. For 35 years of work I had better get a good retirement plan, or better yet retirement itself. But in today's corporate America, that will probably never happen.
Unless you badly need a job, I suggest everyone reading this to not work for Dollar Tree. Bob Sasser is an incompetent CEO and upper management doesn't care in the least for anybody below them. With such a high turnover rate throughout the whole company, your time and money is better spent elsewhere.
I have worked for DT for 7 months as a ASM. I just got my 3rd transfer to the new Montclair store. I have been written up 2 times at this new store. The SM has constantly complained that I was not properly trained. She also has made me feel like I am incompetent to be the ASM. The demands are NOT realistic. In fact they are unreachable in the time management of a closing Mgr. But yet! She is quick to write me up for not being abke to complete the go-backs, recovery, and the necessary paperwork. She has also made it clear that if she write me up again she is go8ng to fire me.
To me! This company makes it impossible to succeed, and excel! It has gottrn to the point where I no longer care about the job! The last store I was at for 2 months seemed to be working very well for me. I got to know the entire team. I got to open, and close at that store. The stress, and mental anguish that has been put on me at this new store is completely unbearable. My DM did NOT give me the choise in this last transfer. He just transferred me with no regard to my happiness, or agreement. I honestly feel that I was setup for failure in this new store. I earn $12.50 hr. And the work that is required of me does not add up in terms of performing the job, and salary of the SM. I am deeply disturbed by the actions of DT. And the SM. And the DM

I've been with dollar tree for almost 5 yrs.. I just moved up to AM about 6 months ago and I get paid 11.75.. Not sure what you guys are doing but I think every state is different.. I'm in Cali
I started at dollar tree almost 3 years ago. In the time since i have grown with in the company at a rapid rate! I read alot here today and it seems to be almost all bad! ........... In january 15th 2014 i started as a stocker at dollar tree. Two weeks later i was asked to become an asm . i went from 7.25$ to 9.25 an hr. 1 year and 4 months later i became a store manager pay went to 39k a year. At this time i am a 22 year old with no college degree making almost 40k a year. I worked long days at first open to close 7 days a week(i became a sm on november 15th 2015) my store was projected to make 165 k that period . i ended up destroying my sales by 35 k . fast forward about 9 months later i got promoted to a larger volume store. I now make 45k as a 23 year old. The plan is to turn this store around. Become a trainer then move on to become a DM all by the age of 25 and a RD by 30. Dollar tree has open doors that were closed to me when my parents lost thier jobs and couldnt go to college. If you work hard it all pays off! Get to work talk to the right people and your growth in dollar tree will be endless! Why not? Maybe even CEO or CFO .
I am trying to find out the Store number of the store at 5151 Sheridan Street, Hollywood and also to find out the full name of the 2 previous Store Managers (SM). Current SM is Tessy and I don't think that was the one I spoke with back when. You can contact me anonymously at dlt33160@gmail.com

Maquetta Muschatts is the store manager at st 03414 in Matteson,Illinois. I've worked for these assholes for 7 years and seen it all. BJ in the men's bathroom from manager to employee. Working your ass off to the point you get sick from it. Diagnosed with anxiety and epilepsy since I've worked there. Got a good review by my SM the DM called her to change it since I've missed so much work bc of my epilepsy so no raise. Have not got paid for my sick leave but I am on Fmla. Daniel Nordaker is the DM of district 147. One of the biggest assholes I know besides Bob Sasser. Probably the silver lining before I started with dt I got to tell my RMS to fuck off. Outside waiting on my friend to get out of work at another store this pompous piece of shit (Ron Malone) screams at me outside to go get carts. "What the hell are you doing standing here not doing anything go get carts!!" I do not work here I'll do whatever the fuck I am want to Fuck Off
So, I was told I was going to get a $9,090 yearly salary increase to remain an 'exempt' manager. Two days before the pay hike was to go into effect, they send an email that they were not going to give the promised/signed pay agreement! Way to boost morale with your Store Managers! Time to hire an attorney!
I have worked for dollar tree for 11 years now.. my first 3 years were just seasonal to help out but after my 3rd year I just stayed with the company. So for the last 8 years I have worked my butt off & became an asm for the last 5 years & only make 10.60 an hour. :/
There is no RDM it's an RM regional is split into districts who each have a DM The RM is their boss
You just about nailed it in every way. I'm a Merch Manager and work harder than any two associates in the store the store managee is lazy as fuck though and quick to try and plant your ass in front of front of the bus when shit comes down. My wife on the other hand is a store manager in another store and there isn't a lazy fuqr in the store. She bust her ass and it's simple do your job and keep it. Yeah the hours and pay suck along with the job and yes the company is full of leaches sucking from the top. I'll tell you like i tell every customer who starts being a prick and can tell everyone if you don't like it Wal-Mart is right there you can always see walmart from dollar tree parking lot.
I was hired on sick with diabetes and fiber myalgia. When I was hired I was only going to be working two days a week possibly three. After getting a new boss And being sick a lot if I miss two days I am asked for a doctors note even though I don't have health insurance and work 18 hours a week. It has been brought to my attention that if you call out you cannot call in another employee on their schedule day off. Now it is been brought to my attention again that if second shift does not show up to relieve you you have to stay and work that shift. What if you have children doctors appointment or other important things that you have to do that you cannot reschedule. It seems over the past few months these new rules are popping up like they're sitting there making them up themselves just to get a person to quit or have a reason to fire a person. When I got my employee handbook it said three days you must provide a doctors note. If you're relieved it's not show up your asked can you stay until I can get the shift covered. in the past I have been called in on my days off why now do they say if you're scheduled off you cannot be called in and that the store manager or shift manager has to work by themselves. I have witnessed my store manager and shift manager walk in the door with lunch in their hands and didn't even know that they had left the store and this is happened on many occasions. Never say the walk out but see that walk in and then one day singing don't walk out and not say nothing get lunch and come back and that is with the shift manager only being on duty 30 minutes how is all this legal?
I am constantly asked by customers are you here all by yourself working because you're the only one I see running around through the store stocking taking care of customers ringing up the customers and doing it all. I say no there's one more here but what little do I know she's either outside smoking in the back of the building or if the freight manager is in that day they take off and say nothing and are out for lunch. Not until I see them walk back in they were gone the whole time and sometimes almost an hour how the hell is that legal? Knowing I'm hired on and that I am ill with many health issues. I am forced to stop 2 to 3 U-boats and a four an half hour shift. While second shift comes in and moves round like a snail saying they did not have time to do any stocking at all much less fill eyeglasses. I am kind of family left with so many responsibilities that it causes me to get sicker faster and I end up having to call out. Again being hired knowing that I have an illness because I work hard it all gets pushed off on me. While everyone else just does whatever they want to do. I think it is unfair that if I miss a day or two that I have to spend money that I do not have to get a doctors note seeing I don't have health insurance and work 18 hours a week. I would be on disability but I get told my husband makes too much money. I feel that they are making up so many different rules to try to get you to quit or fire you. If you missed two days I want to doctors note. If you call out you cannot call anybody else in if it's there schedule day off. This only seems to happen when it's me that calls off. I have seen them call other people in for second shift. But now they have this New rule if second shift doesn't show up I'm the one that has to stay and work the shift. Knowing that I have a child to take care of at home it is not even 2. Also they are giving second shift a shopping cart of merchandise to put up and say you have an hour to do it or they write you up and then you get fired. Because I got fed up with the fact that I have to stock the whole front part of the store. It seems to me that they keep coming up with these rules that I have never seen it in any employee handbook. I have been with this company for a long time and have never been put through so much hell. How can you make a person stay and work if they have a family home to take care of how can you expect A person to have a doctors note for every little sniffle fever vomiting diarrhea illness. If that was the case we will all always be in the doctors office. How is it that they can get away with working me like I'm some type of dog knowing that I have a lot of health issues and some of them are with my hands. One person to stock 2 to 3 uboats in 4/12 hours. I work on the beach which stays busy I stop so many times I am lucky that I can even get anything done. I run myself so ragged that I get sick faster because of my Health issues. The company knew about these health issues when I was hired. I only wanted to work two days a week just to have some type of' pocket change. I didn't want to file for disability but again they say my husband makes too much money. So now that they have me working four shifts a week it is taking a lot out of me because I am being forced to do all the stocking up front while second shift and third shift ass off and do nothing. Watching store managers and shift managers come in and be on the Clock a half an hour and already walking out the door or coming back in the door with food in their hands how is this legal come on people! I am constantly being treated like crap but I can't get another job That is going to let me work certain days like this job. I thought that they were understanding when it came to my health problems but if you ask me they're just pushing me straight faster into the grave. How can't district managers come in and make up rules and not even update and employee handbook and hand them out?
I came over from Winn-Dixie making 11.23 as a lead and because a FT Am. The DM said the starting wage for my position was 10 but because I was already making more at WD they gave me 11. After a year of working there I got bumped to 11.18 and practically killing myself for them. I even let slip on accident what my pay was to another AM in my store and he threw a fit to management demanding more or he won't do certain jobs anymore. Then management came down on me and tried to fire me for sharing that info. The entire thing was bs, the only reason left WD was because i moved a town over. I literally came in to work on a broken foot one day thinking it was just bruised, and couldn't leave until the freight manager came in for the overnight. Let's just say that was the last day I worked there.
I'm asking as a current employee, if I quit, will I be given my pto and sick time that I've accrued? Or will they keep it?
Shill. You Mother-Fucker.. You know better.
I just walked out yesterday. My career with dt became just a job last November when they yanked a nice healthy raise from me. I have been putting in 65 to 85 hours a week as SM and just couldn't catch up with the bullshit crap corp was sending into my store. The dm was a lazy fuck that wouldn't lift a finger to help out within the store and I handed him my box cutter, told him I will make him a name tag and get him an apron so he could be on the sales floor working freight. He looked to the right then the left, turned an angry red and pointed at me and said," thats your fucking job"
So here I am, gave my notice and tried to help out with inventory just 2 weeks away and he starts making snide comments... I WALKED OUT! Now it is time to check out the signed "salary agreement" as a legal binding contract!
I worked there for one week and quit. You're OVERWORKED and UNDERPAID. And the upper management treats you and talks to you like shit. The owners are laughing all the way to the bank because we are allowing them to get away with paying minimum wage. They are a 18.3 billion dollar company as of right now, they have the resources to pay more...... I SAY EVERYONE GO ON STRIKE, THERE IS NO DOLLAR TREE WITHOUT THE VALUBLE EMPLOYEES!!!!!!
While I have never worked there and never will, I am horrified at the experience I have had in Wakefield MA as a customer. Boxes of merchandise lining the aisles. Back end so badly blocked an associate could be easily trapped by fire. Where are FD inspections? Has no one complained about this? And a manager who has been witnessed raising her voice at both associates and customers in public. We loved getting a dollar store but this is bullshit.
What should I look for in a Dollar Tree Feedback Coutomer?
Dollar Tree is an American discount store which selling every item for $1 or less, founded in 1988. Dollar Tree quickly Dollar Tree is a great place to find bargains on kids’ toys. There are stocking stuffers for Christmas
Dollar Tree Coutomer
The local one here had a sign on the door stating they needed both cashiers and stockers. I wondered at this, because the signs had been there for a while. I walked in and asked about the stocking job, and was suspicious when the manager suggested I come back the next day with the filled application and we would talk about it.
I worked there less than a month.
you need to get a lot out, yes?
If I showed initiative and put things out, I got fussed at because it wasn't what they wanted out. If I waited to see what they wanted me to put out, I got fussed at for "not working". When I DID get what I was supposed to put out, 99% of it was stuff that was already out. If I put that out, I got fussed at because now there was too much of it. But if I didn't put it out I got fussed at for not putting out enough stuff. (this is why there are "holes" on the shelves--what was in that spot, we didn't get in, chances are.)
I just couldn't win.
Then there were the hours. At first it was "early hours, 5 am to 10, maybe some days you will be there til 1 in the afternoon". And I said okay, that sounds good.
Then it was "we need to get out a lot, so we're doing overnights, we show up at 10 or 11 pm and work til 6 or 7 in the morning". I was a little leery of this, but what the hell, the police cruises the parking lot, the doors are locked, and it isn't like I am by myself.
Then they seemed to think I was going to do both in one day.
Not on minimum wage (or just over it), I ain't.
Not even sure that is legal, TBH. But I chose to quit rather than make waves.
This on top of helping to unload their trucks (which were invariably late), and trying to figure out where the heck to put anything in the stock room. Invariably I either got it wrong or someone else did and I got blamed for it.
Manager is best described as a "dragon lady", and inventory manager (who was incredibly patient most of the time) is WAAAAY too young to be so bitter and stressed.
In short, I can see why they can't keep employees.

I was diagnosed with ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease) when I was 46 years old 2 years ago. The Rilutek (riluzole) did very little to help. The medical team did even less. Dollar tree website sucks ass
I worked for Dollar Tree in KY and NC. I was there for 2 years. I was promoted from a cashier to a asm within a few months. I’m 1 of the few I guess who really enjoyed working for them. I was fortunate to work under 3 great managers and able to run a store without a mgr. The only thing I will say negative about them is the pay sucks!!!!
