Dollar Tree Sucks Main Forum

Hello

I have starter this blog so that all those of us who are fed up with Dollar Tree and the crap that they put us through can have a place to vent freely and without any regrets. This will be a blog for all to vent. I want to hear what you guys have to say, especially people that work at DT currently.Your gripes about pay, hours, benefits, sph, payroll, packout etc....
I also want to use this blog to get an idea as to what people at DT are getting paid across the US, so as you post please tell us what you get paid.

What does this say about quality checks the company cant even figure out how many stars the US flag is supposed to have. This is a whole new level of stupid Dollar Tree needs a new CEO and a whole revamp of their business model.
PS I saw a post on here that mentioned a union. I personally think that it is a great idea, a little bargaining power could only help the workers get a fair deal. Union Dollar Tree workers today then Walmart and keep folding retail employees in and all of a sudden we have union shops that I would definitely support fair wages better conditions another idea that could make working retail in America better. There are other retail companies that use unions and those unions should expand and fold in DT workers then we'll see how DT likes abusing their employees.

First I want to apologize to some of you because your comments did not appear when you wrote them. Blogger decided to implement an automatic spam filter (I cannot turn it off and I hate it so Blogger please get rid of it or give me an option to turn it off) and some of the longer comments were flagged as such. They have been posted so your voice did not get lost. Please continue to post, your comments will make it just give it some time (they might show up right away if they get through the filter).

I also want to thank you all for your participation. Your voices, your stories are being heard by the thousands. We are the number one link when you type in "Dollar Tree sucks" on Google and Yahoo. I love the name dropping, it will forever immortalize the ones that are incompetent, the slave drivers and overall idiotic employees who run and work for this blood sucking leech of a company. Thank you!

Allright I'll start im an SM 42K New England.
I used to love going to work, whatever hours whatever it took i busted my ass. Its been a while since then, i've been beaten down so much that i dont care anymore. I love my store and the people i work with but the stupid rules and expectations that are coming down the line lately are idiotic at best. the rdm is a dick FUCK YOU there i said i feel better. How can you expect so much out of so little, you pay everyone as little as you possibly can, stingy as hell with raises and forget paying associates a living wage, thats what managers get paid lol.

Susan Cole disgusts me as a Manager. I have worked for Dollar Tree for several years now and Dollar Tree Executive needs to know what is going on. We all know why the Real Estate process of submitting the files to Susan Cole was changed. The files would sit on Susan Coles desk for days/weeks before she would activate them to get to a Lease Negotiator which would delay the process. When a Lease is on her desk, the Real Estate Managers and VP of Leasing would have to inquire indirectly to what the status of the Lease was. Her priorities is not Dollar Tree and will never be. An audit on her phone calls and emails should be immediately performed as she has abused the Dollar Tree policy (i.e. making personal calls during working hours for hours on end). She allows her staff to take days off without submitting a request (i.e. Tammy Park). Tammy Park's absence from work should be compared to her requests for days off and compared to the work performed at work. An entire audit should be performed on that department. Susan Cole is protected by John Cote as we all know. Her mistakes with reviewing the Leases have been concealed for many years now. She has Kristin Cain cleaning her home once a month, what privileges do you think she is allowing Kristin to have at work. Her inability to manage her own money is definitely a problem as she is always complaining she does not have any money and borrowing money from her co-workers. Susan Cole allows her staff to slander each others names to gain the upper hand (i.e. Slandering and downgrading Trisha Dussia, Jackie Marhalk, Real Estate Managers). Susan Cole has fallen asleep at her desk on several occasions. We are all obligated to work together as a team but as Susan Cole has proven she does not, placing the blame on other departments such as the Real Estate Leasing and Construction (new store setup). My understanding from an outside source who works for another company stated that Susan Cole did not represent Dollar Tree at NRTA Conference in a Professional Manner. The entire time there she was drunk. She could not stay awake in her classes and demonstrated an inability to network while at NRTA. We should all abide by the same policies and procedures. One Department does not deserve privileges over another.

I am a DT AM in the Inland Empire in California. I have given 3-1/2 years hard work as an AM and still only make 11.30 an hr. I have had newly hired MALE AM's brag about what they make and it is quite a bit higher than what I make. My manager has managed a few different Dollar Tree locations and has told me that he knows myself and they other 2 female AM's in our store are not being payed what others are. I was told to expect to only see 3% pay increses as that is all they will give. Oh...and for the people that say get another job....we live in the Inland Empire which has one of if not THE highest rate of unemployment in the nation. My guess is DT knows that and knows we won't just leave because there are no jobs to go to.

Yeah 3% raises tops are the norm with dt even for sms. they even go as far as to make it sound like they are doing you a favor giving you 3%. i saw a raise of 3% last year that was $5 more every two weeks on my check. That was sad

I work at the Corporate office and I make more than the others inmy department who have been there longer with more knowledge. It is unfair to see that DT will not give those who deserve a pay increase who deserve it. I have also learned, they pick and choose who they want in the circle so be very carefull. I recently overheard a VP who have been at DT for 10 years say how he is going to make it his duty to get someone fired from another department. I mean he was just happy go lucky on gettingt his person fired so this is the professionalism we are dealing with.

This is not a company I would want to work for. The unprofessionalism that occurs, how could they go to sleep at night. Everyone at DT is out for themselves that is to include the upper management. They know the eonomy is horrible so we can't move on. I go to work everyday to do my job and get the hell out of there. Dollar Tree is just a pay check, nothing else!

I have worked many jobs retail and DT is the worst job I ever took. I thought I was doing good only being two weeks and I was promoted to asm and they worked the hell out of me for the holidays and when the holidays were over my hours got cut from 45 to 24 to 12 and then one day i come in and they say your not on the schedule this week call next week and we will see if we can get you some hours. Then I'm told to turn in my keys they had brought a male from another store and gave him my hours. For no reason I worked hard there everyday. Did all the shit they asked me to do I was never trained right I was never even given a employee hand book I just learned as much as I could so I could open and close the store send in the #'s on saturday nights. I am getting unemployment because they cut my hours so much but I had to fight them every inch. I hope to find a better job but it's hard with so many people getting layed off everywhere. But I really cant survive on unemployment. Good luck to any of you that work for them I wish i would have never fell into that trap. But this web site has helped me b/c for a long time I questioned myself did i do something wrong but after reading what I have on both web sites I see it was not just me!!

Have you seen the new appleseed videos it makes me want to puke "its the managers responsibility" ,"its the managers responsibility" ,"its the managers responsibility" ,"its the managers responsibility" How many times can you say the same damn thing. its not going to change anything, what happen to the master list, and daily planner and 3x5 cards, nothing you try will work if its not realistic. get some realistic goals and maybe we all as a company can get something done and not just get used to everyone around us being replaced and just counting the days until we are gone.

Appleseed is their first step towards
rolling out demand scheduling sometime next year.Compass will schedule your staff .Stockers as well as your AM.This will be base how much time they think it takes to perform daily tasks. This is why the push is now for production. This is why ,they came up with appleseed weekly package.

Another week of missed breaks and lunches at Dollar Tree for myself and fellow ASTM. Our manager put us in for breaks and lunches we did not take, but he put us in for them even though we did not put them on the timeclock worksheet. The week before he put a note with our names in the office with big stars by them for not writing them down for all associates to see. What is even better...we get no lunch unless we take it as soon as we get there or go past 5 hrs. and then get get in trouble for it. He however gets to leave the store for hour to hour and 45 minute lunches. He even took a young ladies helping for inventory prep from another store along for these lunches several times and in Compass itshows her as taking a 30 minute lunch. They also would take the bank deposit together (bank is less than 1/2 mile round trip) and would take trips to Starbucks (a 45 minute bank deposit).
We also get told we do not do anything, can't do anything and he is intentionally scheduling people against the availability that thay have had in the computer for the past year due to school or a second job. These people were hired with this availability and has not changed but he does it anyways. He also punishes people with the schedule if they question him on anything.

minimum wage,having asm pay range from $9.00 to $14.00 with the same experience.changing our holiday pay.full time status is 35 hours. The

it is true at the end of the week the managers cut time off employee's time they worked. I was a ass store manager and my boss always did this at the end of the week. We are told to say nothing or we will be fired. Well I said something and sure enough I was let go. I got unemlpoyment because he told them I was let go because lack of hours so they didnt fight me but I was making 600.00 every 2 weeks and now I get about 195.00 a week. I cant live off this. If you can find another job walk out on them they deserve it.

In a previous comment I spoke of a female from another store coming to help for inventory...well that girl that took off with the manager for 1 hour and 45 minute lunches is now going to be his new asst. managet at the new store they are building. Several people at our store mentioned that they wanted to be considered and were just ignored. Dollar Tree in California (Riverside County area) needs to work on what is ethical and moral.

well my store manager was having sex with a girl he hired as Christmas help in the back room and one day he forgot to turn off the back door cameras and they caught it on film. He finally got fired he had his brother work there for x-mas and payed him from the safe and I told the dm and he didnt belive me. then when they got him on film having sex they fired him. I bet it was gross b/c he weighs about 400 pounds and she was a big girl to. Dollar tree really hires great people huh. I quit because my hours got cut after the holidays and they are pissed b/c the have to give me my unemployment . B/c of lack of work.

Today,my store manager took off for a 3 day weekend,without scheduling anyone to open the store. I came in at 1 pm,to open the store late.I had no staff ,as they got tired of waiting.Customer mad as hell,truck driver got tired of waiting so he left to his next stop.By the time the
truck driver came back to the store,i
told him i was by myself and can not accept the delivery. He was also mad hell.At dollar tree , my store manager will probably have a job on Monday and the stupid asm will get in trouble for this

You know what??? This place is worse than Wal Mart..really it is. The sales are going up More stores are opening and they are tightining up payroll.. to certain stores. I work out here in California and I will tel you it is nothing but favortism.. I was a store manager who worked my ass off and for what??? If you don't suck up to your stinky DM yes mine smelled of armpits.. good lord... you will not be around for long.. that's just the bottom line..go to hell dt...

Dollar Tree does suck ass, I quit after only working there for about a month and a half. I worked at the one on McHenry in Modesto, CA. The fucking AC was broke and they kept saying they were working on getting it fixed. But weeks went by and nothing so I got tired of it, so I went and got a nice pair of Dickie work shorts. So I goto work its hot as hell in the store and the fucking bull dike manager Liz almost sends me home because of it. Because they have to wait until they get a memo or some shit from higher up saying it's okay to wear shorts now. So, I tried to wait it out but I just got tired of it. Every time I would go in there I would get nauseous so I quit without a 2 weeks notice. But luckily I knew the manager and she put down I was rehire able.

dt has got to be the worst company i have ever worked for! i'm an am, in 2 years no raise if i hang in a couple years more the cashiers will make more than me. at least they get a raise...when minimum wage goes up ha! the sm can't keep up with things lies to the dm & i get blamed for not doing HER job. the general attitude is if the sm doesn't do it i'm supposed to go behind her & pick up her slack. i go in do what i feel like doing & get out until i'm paid otherwise. using this job as a way to gain managerial experience since i certainly can not live off the pay. the sm is immature & completely unprofessional for a woman in her 40's, calls & texts the(18 year old) cashiers drunk at night talking trash all in their business as she has no life outside of dt. about to promote a cashier who can't count down her drawer yet & hasn't even been there a month! i'm doing the work of 3 mgrs, 9-14 dollars an hour looks good to me i don't even make that. it would make sense to fire incompetents, theives & mgrs that in general do a crappy job, not in my district. yet that is exactly how we are all treated! treat us all like garbage & don't bother trying to weed out the real trash.

Ok so I work at the dt and I love my job. I work the am shift, b4 we got the new sm I would have at least 30 to 35 hours and I was ok wit that. Now this fucking cunt of a sm who's a pill popper only give me and my friend 10 to 15 hours every 2 weeks like wtf is up wit that, we basicly the only 2 guys on the stock crew and they expect us to have the truck out in 2 days of work that's a joke not to metion gettin blown off on our raises we get such shitty pay like I can't even afford my car payments and trnna find another job is shitty cus our economy blows. So to my sm michelle FUCK YOU PILL POPPIN FAT ASS DYKE. Bring back brandy scott or are u juss that much of a fucking tool.

Things aren't any different at the corporate office in Chesapeake Virginia. Bob Sasser, Bruce Paolini, Pat Doss, all of them are racist pigs! We are over worked, and underpaid! I read some of the posting and it is the same at Corporate. The favortism that occurs is unreal. I heard about the Lease Negotiation manager through an email but heard it through the grade vine! Sue Cole gives her staff special privileges and is protected by John Cote! I hate working here but it is just a pay check! I come into work do what I need to do and leave! No more no less! Dollar Tree really needs to re-evaluate their staff but again a racist company will never change!

My heart goes out to everyone at DT that is unhappy with their positions. DT has really gotten to be the worst company now to work for. If you're not part of the right click then you abused. Due to the economy we don't really have any choose but to shut up and do our jobs. I want everyone to know that no matter where you are at DT (stores, distribution centers, and Corporate) its all the same! I agree Bob Sasser, and the rest of them don't care.... yes I do know for a fact that they are racist!

I'm equally amazed at the total misuse of grammar and spelling errors in your posts; especially from those "quality" people of the Corporate Office. Your job is what you make of it! I work for dollar tree, and I have no problem with the way they do things. Retail is tough. If you can't handle DT's RDM's, DM's, and SM's, then you won't be able to any where else that is corporate or retail. I have been with the company for two years and have no intent to leave anytime soon.

Hello Everyone
I want to first apologize about my lack of upkeep of this blog, I have been indisposed these last few months.
I want to thank everyone for being so forthcoming with the comments and I hope that being able to vent helped in its own little way.
I do want to thank the offer for moderator but I believe I can take care of it.
I'm extremely impressed with this blog, if you type "dollar tree sucks" in Google this is the first thing that comes up. I want to encourage everyone to share with their friends and have them come on here and vent (I'm sure they have plenty of reason to do so). I want to keep adding to this blog, evidence of the horrible work conditions, labor law offenses and general harassment that occurs daily at dollar tree stores inc. I hope eventually someone pays attention and maybe something changes for the better. Believe me I know it's a long shot but DT management cant possibly be this stupid , although they have surprised me so far at every chance they got.
I like the name dropping I'm sure someone out there is bitching that their name is forever immortalized as a horrible boss, coworker, racist pig etc. All the more reason for the anonymity of this blog (rest assured your secret is safe so vent away).
Again enjoy and don't worry, my story is just one of the anonymous ones on this blog, I share your pain too, believe me.

Well I was finally "let go" from DT; they had enough of my managing my store at the "beat of my own drum". Sorry I did not choose to follow the DT program and have a cookie cutter store. You know, one with the messy shelves, full back room, pissed off employees, customers etc etc. I get punished for having a beautiful store, manageable backroom, the loyalty and respect of my employees and of my assistants, and making money hand over fist (every bonus they threw at me I got) but God forbid I should make some good money. He must be doing something wrong. Did it never occur to anyone that I might be doing something right? My inventories were perfect, the numbers were excellent, my employees happy which in turn made for a pleasant shopping experience and customer that actually liked shopping my store. WHAT A CONCEPT! But what do I know, I’m just an SM (was an SM), I’m not worthy enough to have an opinion that counts so whatever I say and do I’m wrong but whatever DT says is right as rain. Well I stuck it to DT royally, I got unemployment and with the unemployment at the current level and “triggers” pulled from the national government I can enjoy the benefits of my extended vacation for up to 55 weeks or so. So fuck you DT and thank you for my long awaited paid vacation. AHHH I feel good, just had to get that out. On top of everything else my store is now “a shit hole”, the managers that were “hand picked” to replace me could not do a tenth of the job I did and they had to live under my shadow and damn I never knew how big a shadow I cast. They had to work with my assistants who were actually trained and knew their rights (lunches, breaks, labor laws) a full crew that had worked with me for years who loved me. Everyday they heard “well he did like this”, “isn’t his way better”, “but the old manager did it this way and it worked better” etc. Needless to say those managers did not last long, my assistants all quit or got fired soon after I was gone, the crew was replaced slowly but surely and the end result, my store was turned into “a shit hole”. I can’t bring myself to go in there to look, that store was my baby. I was there from day 1 when they were putting up the sheetrock and the drop ceiling, from the day I hired the first employee at that store and the first sale at its registers. I have seen pictures, videos (cell phones are awesome), old customers catching me as I shop at Wal-Mart and asking me what happened, “Why did the store fall to shambles” “Are you coming back?” I really wish I could talk to the DM, HR director, RDM one last time and ask them “You happy now?” Their stupidity turned one of the best stores in the state into one more dirty disorganized Dollar Tree store, exactly what they wanted, just one more cookie cutter store. Well I hope they are happy because I am, as I sit here writing this with a cold beer in my hand that was bought with the unemployment check they paid for. I might miss my store and want to shed a tear for what it’s become but all I have to do is think back to the crap I had to put up with and the misery the upper management caused me and I thank God they fired me. Sorry but people who say "if it sucks then stop working there", some of us actually try to live it up and keep the job because work is hard to find. Me for example, started working at a Dollar Tree when it first opened and I was happy to get the job. The second I started working, my assistant manager was rude to me, and I am not being self-centered, but I always treated people nicely, and I would never get mood swings on customers because I don't take my anger out on other people.

(By the way, for people here saying that others have such a bad DT job because their grammar is bad.. you're pretty judgmental. Not everyone is perfect in the English language. And plus, DT jobs are USUALLY (not all) for those younger adults and those who didn't finish college yet... so would you think a lawyer would have bad grammar? Of course not, they are more educated and have a way better job/pay.)

Apparently, the management DOES get pissed off about something and blame their employee about it. If no one else has a problem working here, then thank God, because you are VERY fortunate. Here are some problems I had with Dollar Tree:

1) They messed up my first paycheck paying me less than 1/4 of the money that I worked for, and after hours of demanding and wanting to set things straight, my store manager FINALLY paid me.

2) They messed up a few checks after that.

3) They are so "under-employed", but it's the fact that DT doesn't believe in having more than two cashiers open simultaneously, so me, applying for a sales floor position, ended up working so hard as a cashier, busted my ass lifting the biggest, heaviest items up for customers to somehow magically "bag" them while they stand and watch me in pain. And because I am less than 5 feet tall, it's difficult to work with large objects. So overall, you never get the job you want.. which was sad because I loved organizing, and never got to clean shelves or restock items.

4) I was yelled at for counting cash and piling it on the table, and my AM yelled at me saying "what if the wind blows it away?" Yeah sure, in the stuffiest, messiest and hottest place in the neighborhood. Their AC is so bad, even customers die sweating, standing on 50 minute lines.

5) Since I only worked a few days week because of cut hours, I didn't know about the Food Stamps video I had to watch, so when a customer asked me when they will be accepting Food Stamps, my AM yelled at me saying I "should've known" in front of everyones' faces.

6) I was never defended when I was yelled at by customers. Supposedly, DT is supposed to accept MasterCard credit at our store, but the machine did not take it.. so I told customers we don't accept them. They question me and give me attitudes about why we don't when I stated the signs changed on the front door, a huge sign on the wall at the entrance, and two notes at the cashier. When I call my SM or AM, they tell me I shouldn't talk to customers like that.

7) This one time, a customer notified me about someone stealing in the store, so I called my AM and it took her ages to get to my register. She finally came and I told her that someone was stealing. she dared tell me that I should've stopped him. What if he killed me?? I was on a busy register.

8) My asshole SM was working one day, only me and him, and a two guys in the back working with shipments. Since one register was opened, the line was literally from one side of the store to the other. I asked for backup once and no one answered for a while, so I didn't know what was going on. A customer came up to me and yelled at me about asking for help. I called for help again because of her attitude request, and my SM told me to pick up on a line and gave me an attitude to say "I'm sick and tired of you asking for backup. I'm busy, I can't answer you, you need to wait. You're on me constantly asking for backup when I can't come, you need to stop being demanding", and hangs up on me instantly. Are you serious??? I wasn't demanding, I didn't know if he heard me, because if he was in the back room, he would've never heard my call!

9) One time, when the store was practically empty, I called my manager but he was two registers away when I asked for help. Him being lazy, decided to just scream across. Since you cannot say that you need a pick up aloud for safety reasons, I tried to signal him to come over here. Instead, he just kept pushing me to just tell him, and I said (not scream), "Pick up." Instead of coming here to help me, he disappeared and instead my other bitch AM came and lectured me rudely about how I cannot do that even though I told her what happened. I could be wrong in a way, so I'm not entirely blaming them, but still. She took my pick up and left. 10) When I asked for quarters because I only had dimes and nickels left, my bitch AM said to just use the nickels and dimes.. and I'm like, are you serious?? Even the customer I was helping told me to tell my AM to stop being a wise-ass!

11) They do not get rid of recalled items fast enough. They don't even throw away defected products like opened food packages and dent cans. They just leave it out. Even when sandwich bag boxes are open, they just tape it back together while half the bags are missing and just let people buy them! They leave out expired food even when my SM was confidently telling everyone in the beginning that it would NEVER happen in his store.

12) So many (most, not all) of my "fellow" employees are mean and rude to me. For no reason. They laugh at me behind my back and just start jokes about me when I leave the office. Sometimes when I ask for breaks from my AMs, the other workers just go "Shut up! haha!" and say random things to me. I found it so offending. That, PLUS every stressful and tiring day I worked there made me finally break down and cry one day.

14) My SM is the biggest jerk. If you get to know him, he's a complete smart-ass and difficult to converse with when you're bored at work. Not only does he pretend to like you and care about your life, but everything you tell him, he has something smart to say back and end it with his "correct" statement and say "Exactly", as if he was right all the time.

He also takes to such an offense as if you control sudden sickness. Working there busting my ass everyday, I never asked for a day off nor came late to work. One day, I got sick randomly and vomited everywhere with a bad headache. I called about an hour early to let my SM know before my shift starts and he says "Why couldn't you tell me yesterday or ahead of time?!" Am I supposed to know when I get sick? Oh yes totally, by the way, I'm going to start vomiting and get bad headaches tomorrow, so I won't come to work /sarcasm.

Overall, he's rude. When I quit my job and occasionally shopped there, I was always nice and waved and said "hello" to him with a smile, not being hostile. He just stares directly at my face and look aways...and it's not just one time, but twice in less than half an hour. I just used to think he couldn't see me, but then he asks one of my coworkers, one register away from me (blocked by the shelves, and he couldn't see me), he asked her how I was doing when I was right there in front of his face the whole time. He is a complete fake and tries to find excuses all the time to defend his badly managed store.


15) Sometimes they change my schedule without notifying me. There are so many instances where they changed my shift times and I end up going half hour early to work and getting scolded at, and sometimes my bitch AM calls me telling me I'm late for working and saying I should start being smart and check my schedule, then scolds me. So late or early, I get yelled at. Since I wasn't working everyday, how could they just change my schedule and not tell me, and expect me to know when I'm not there? I would LOVE if they notified me before changing.

Working at DT was one of the most stressful, tiring, annoying, back-aching, unfair and underpaid job I've had.

In the beginning where they lectured us about fairness, they said that one worker should not be working harder than the other because it's not fair to be paid the same while one works more. People get paid standing at the door being a doorman at the sore, while I get paid the same or even less from lifting heavy bags, gallons of milk, huge boxes of 50 piece set dinnerware, 5 feet long containers, getting scratched, bruises, bumped, cut, yelled at, at the cash register. Is that fair??

DT really needs to get their act straight and start handling things properly.

I quit because I could not stand a second of spending hours at that place where it's so hard to breathe, stressful, you get people breathing down your neck and not getting paid the money you deserve.

Of course most of the things they sell there for $1 are things that people usually wouldn't buy at regular priced stores, even if it was still a $1.

Oh yes and one more thing.. as a cashier, you don't just handle heavy bags and money. Rather you have a new responsibility to handle a list of other shit on a sheet of paper like restock the impulse area which is at the cash register, restock umbrellas, sodas, sweep the front and the floor, make 4 security announcements, 4 food announcements, empty your trash, watch the front door, put away your "put-back" items, clean your register area that's always messy from the previous cashier or for a reason that is not your fault, clean the windows and doors, fix broken items, put away shopping carts and baskets.

Sometimes when I put my put-backs back, I get yelled at for leaving my register.. which I find so stupid.

If there are no people even for 10 seconds at your register, you have to do something like walk in the aisles and fix messes. My bitch AM yelled at me for just standing there when I was JUST about to move saying DT doesn't pay me to do nothing. Yeah of course not, DT pays me to get hurt every single time I work.

And the second I go find something else to do, someone is at my cash register, in which I cannot see them, and my manager yells at me for being irresponsible. Yes, it's my fault that I have to put frozen food away on YOUR orders, but I get yelled at for doing so.

I'm a sales associate at dollar tree and have never had a more frustrating job in my life. The store is incredibly understaffed and we're all embarrassingly underpaid for the hard work we do. Currently I believe I'm entitled to a raise but am scared to ask for it due to being afraid I'll have my hours cut or worse, get fired just for asking.
The higher-ups at dollar tree are completely ignorant to the realities of what happens in their stores, from the pitifully low pay to the unrealistic expectations of their employees, associates and managers alike. Upper management/corporate requires far more than anyone can possibly deliver and fully EXPECTS it all to be done.
These bonehead CEO's or whatever they are really need to participate in the Undercover Boss tv program.

I have worked at a dollar tree in ok for 2 years recently the dm made a comment to me (requesting i suck his dick) i filed sexual harassment charges against him <<< let me back up prior to this I was asked to go to the round table was in position to get a store im currently the merchandise manager said yes the day came and passed <<<<after i filed charges against the dm after 3-4 weeks of interviewing and calling they removed him from my district but he was allowed to keep his job he has been telling everyone what has happened from employees to regis people who do inventory one of the ass. at our store was friends with him so needless to say she was retaliating against me to some extent she would take the signs from the back room post them in the office the sex-harr posters highlight info on them .talk to all the employees about it frankly they were all my friends so she didnt get anywhere with that except when i reported all of this to corporate i was told actions had been taken against the dm and that they would remove this employee from the store ??? and that was all i needed to know and that i needed to move on and get over it! I have been sent to all the stores in my district to clean up messes that the store managers could not do theirselves i get a lousy 9.25 and hour and work 40 plus hours a week i have been very devoted to my job and was just trying to let corporate know what was going on in there stores all the sm are in a small triangle with the dm not to mention they are all female and they can do no wrong it just sucks cause there are people out there like us who bust there asses harder then there sm and we get nonthing! oh ya and dollar tree use some since if your going to do a surprise visit let it be just that! dont call your dm and everyone else and tell them your comming and THEN maybe you will truly see exactly what your precious dm's and sm's dont while your away!

I worked at DT for a year on the east coast and loved my job. The store was new and everyone was a family.I I moved to the west coast and left a five year job that I aquired here,for DT. BIG mistake.I even pulled 3 people from where I worked,to come to dollar tree with me,had I known what it was like here,it never would have happened.First of all I was the lowest asst mngr.paid.And the the DM was the most evil B**** ever. She would not promate the female asst mngrs, but if you were a male,you were golden!She drove out my manager,an asst.and then deamed me non rehirable.I went back east to help my family with legal problems,tried calling her often to let her know what was going on,she never responded to my voice mail or calls,she did have my number programmed also.An asst who was being sexually harrassed by her,has recently been fired,he passed on her advances,and has been fired.little does she know he has every text she sent him and is now suing,as for myself I will never go back to a dollar tree,even if i was allowed too,but I will not sit and let this s*** happen to others,And I will NOT take shut up money like some did!everyone who knows what goes on....get out.....and do something about it! I work for the Dollar Tree now.I live in New Hampshire.We have a new district manager.The wicked witch from the west.She has been in the company 6 months and thinks she knows it all.This lady makes her own rules.We use to be able to take vacations up till Nov 1st,she has changed that to October 15.Is it legal?They tell us what 2 nights we have to close the store.If you get trucks on Monday,you have to work monday day Teusday 5am till 3pm if The bitch doesn't show up in your store which she always does so you are stuck there till she leaves at about 6pm.Close on Wednesday,11am till 9:30pm,Thursday off if ur lucky,close Friday and open satuarday,But dont leave ur store before 5:30 because she will check to see if your there ur whole shift.Oh ya make sure on Teusday you better answer ur phone when she calls to see if you are really there at 5am to push frieght.They really trust the managers.Dont forget those calls on Monday to tell you all she is ur boss and you will do what she says..(IM THE BOSS,YOU DO AS I SAY)those are her words.Even when she doesn't know what she is talking about.The newest thing is a new Manager stood up for her staff and the way this bitch treated everyone,she wasn't rude just honest.This lady walks in and doesn't even look at the staff never mind have a clue what any of there names are.They are nothing to her.
The manager spoke with the DM about needing to leave early 1 maybe 2 days a week early due to her son needing to go to PT for knee problems,that she had been putting off for alomst 2 months, because she was AFRAID to ask the DM and the store required her to be there(DMs words).The bitch said as long as its only a short period of time.Work over child lets see which 1 does she pick.She finally gave her notice and the bitch asked her if she wanted to step down to an Assistant.She did think about it until they gave her a rate of pay of $9.00 an hour.20 yrs experience and they offer her that.She declined nicely,we have all seen the EMAIL THE BITCH sent back.IT said (IT WORKED SHE IS LEAVING)How can a company play these games.Needless to say the manager walked that morning and is filing a suit agianst them.Why didn't she just let her finish her 2 weeks.Thats what you get when you tell the truth.This bitch will push us out, some that have been in the company 10 yrs or more.She must be sleeping with the hireups..

I work for Dollar Tree in New Hampshire.It use to be an OK company to work for,But the last yr this company doesn't care about the people that keep there store going.No its all about the money.They hire there Assistants at 8.50 and hour and the associates at 7.25 an hour,and expect them to kill themselves.The managers work 65 to 70 hours a week to keep the store running right,because they are afraid to loose there jobs in this economy.

I use to be a manager in NH that has this DM.I walked out 3 weeks ago because of her.I spoke the truth about how she is cold hearted and and has no clue how to treat a staff.She cuts you down any chance she gets and runs you on fear.This store had been going through hell and back.Things where finally looking up in there for all of us till SHE the DM started her shit.She didnt like us all working as a team and getting along as a team.I was working 60 hours a week because the store wa down on associates due to the pay rate of 7.25,nobody wanted to work for that pay and the 1s we did get in there DID bust ass for us but it was never enough for HER.She walked in 1 day and told my assistant to go do some work so it looked like something got done in there.This was after we had already put out 300 cases on a 5am shift.when i told her i needed to leave an hour early for my sons physical therapy she himmed and hawwed.I had put it off for over a month because of the hours I was working in the store.I was trained by one of the best mangers in the company for 7 weeks,Why bother to send us out to be trained when she makes up her own rules.Makes us rip apart Isles set ASR that dont fit ur store.Wants you to cut the hours of associates that know what there doing and bring in new ones that cant be trained because we dont have anyone to train them.They dont give you the extra hours to train them either.Then they bitch when your frieght is getting backed up and your store is a mess because you dont have time to train new people and do the work..So as a manager you have no choice to work tons of hours to keep up with the bullshit.As The DM says (shes the boss and it her way so just do it)..I did it alright,After seeing my family VERY little in 6 months I gave my 2 week notice.

I need to post this and hope everyone reads it because The NEW DM of NEW HAMPSHIRE is lieing.I gave a 2 week notice and was going to stay.The DM even asked me to stay on as an assistant and I thought about it.I do love the type of job I do But didnt like the hours or dealing with her directly,If I stepped down I wouldnt have to deal with her because she never talks to the assisants or cashiers I though about it until they gave me the pay rate.I nicely turned down the offer,and told her I would still do my 2 weeks and that was that.Till the next morining I came in to open my store I got a response to that email.quote(IT WORKED SHE IS LEAVING)needless to say after reading that I wasnt playing HER GAMES,I had my assistant count all the drawers and the safe.I called in 2 more people to help her unload truck so she had 3 people to help with truck.I then replied to her email and made sure mark and maryAnn got a copy of it and let my whole staff read it and printed it so I had my copys and told THE DM the keys where in the safe she could come run the store herself.I never walked out They wanted to play me and I wasnt playing.HER problem was she didnt like it when I stood up for my staff and the way she treated them and myself.You want respect ,you treat people with respect.I miss the staff and the friendships I built at DT but I dont miss the Bitch that runs that district.She will drive more out and im sure of that..watch and see how many start posting on her because of her...........

They don't care about the hourly employees that work there, if the store looks good and the manager shows up everyday everything else is good we had the highest turn over of employees since she has been there, we have gone through 2 am,2 fm and countless hourly cashiers she hasnt been there a year yet. She likes you when u start and tells you what u want to hear but when u call in cuz yr sick you are on her shit list and are looking for abuse or to get fired. dollar tree does not pay fairly and has rules designed to set its associates upfor failure to never see a raise. whoever wrote they are paid fairly clearly has a limited view of the company and minimum wage. cashiers do more than whats asked of them at anyother store, we are given write upsif a customer decides to have an item removed from their purchase, we are timed on tasks yet must maintain the lines atthe register atthe same time. we are always understaffed, we are given ten minutes to break which is the least amount of time allowed by law and the only company i know that goes by the minimum. i understand we are still in a financial slump but by working and buying from dollar tree we aresetting our economy up for failure. it opens the gateway for more dollar tree stores and their competitors to offer bare minimums required by law for maximum expectations. we are exposing ourselves to be abused and used. this sounds dramatic but look at it from the company's point of view, they make millions and can afford to drop you for some other sucker because one will be willing to give it a go and they make enough by selling cheap merchandise to low income families who truley believe they are getting a deal. when in fact we are selling our pride short. work at dollar tree and sell your rights and humanity for minimum wage. whores have more dignity.

We are not in a great depression, we are not just grease in the wheels of Bob Sassers money making racket- we are the faces you see at the register, we are the stockers, we are the managers, we are the ones who make it happen. we are underpaid, over worked, punished by irregular rules against "voids", we are not asked to stay over our hours but are ignored when our breaks are due, we are left to beg to leave on time, we are yelled at for not being able to price check at the registers, we are human most of all. And corporate america is full of vampires. Bob Sasser is a leech and a wealthy undeserving one. Try explaining how you managed your bonuses and profits when most companies aren't fairing as well in this tough market? I don't know about the rest of america, but leeches make me sick!

being threatened to get fired for not staying late is definetly a work ethic killer and does not produce happy employees. having to stock for inventory while manning the register, shifting shelves and doing "go backs" while cleaning up all in one five hour work day is next to impossible. half of us did NOT get any if all our breaks during an eleven- 12 hour shift and yet we are written up for it? eleven cashiers with that many lost breaks in one day is a sign management has become the devils advocate for dollartree and deals. we in the bronx are getting fed up with constant excuses for no raises after almost two years, write ups because customers want items voided and paying 16 dollars for a work shirt when we only make 7.35 an hour? wtf?

going to work in about a half hour, at 7:30 this morning. I will have a half hour to stock/ rearrange an entire isle before customers arrive, i will be the only cashier until 12, to which i will have to not ingest any fluids so i will not have to use the bathroom. i willl also be let out late as everyday i have to maintain and stock candy isle, seasonal, and front candy as well as go-backs, my register, and whatever else they feel they can squeeze out of an underpaid part time employee. i was hired as a cashier, never having been told i'd have to lift heavy boxes, unload boxes, and do what the stock clerks do for 15cents less an hour. i am small framed and if that be the case, i would have declined on the position. i was reprimanded valentines day due tomy managers having issues with a single mother employee because she keeps requesting to be relieved within the hour of erdaily schedule- if she is scheduled to 3, she iswilling to stay til four with some notice. she has to pay extra for day care plus may lose her day care due to her tardi pickups- due to the manager keeping her and giving her hell about her staying. they wanted to use me off register as an excuse to keep heron longer past her shift. impeding on my performance to punish her is catty and horrific of two grown men in a position of authority. in fact one is the store mgr. shahab, theother one johnny explained it wasn't against me, he outright explained shahab had an issue with this employee and wanted to make her wait. i was baffled that not only would a mgr brag about unproffessional behavior, but he did it to those under him, infront of another cashier, and made a terrible impersonation of the young lady. if you cannot respect your employees and the schedule you write out for them then you have no place being in a position of power. deals/ dollartree places profit before people, most companies do, but its blatant disregard for breaks, raises after two years, discrimination against single mothers, and lack of union is disgraceful. i am putting in my two weeks today, if i dont get fired first, shahab likes to misuse reverse psychology. he also hires people (females) based on his personal attraction to them, despite his married status. he's not too ashamed to let on to that fact as well. our managers are overworked and its become common practice that everyone under them suffer for it by not being relieved, being told that they are staying behind. the scheduling is haphazardly done, thats the truth, if shahab as store manager cant tell by the fact we are always "in need" of more help everyday. plus, we run out of store bags often. thats another terrible happening to overlook.

I am an ex employee at Dollar tree in Levelland, Texas (cashier). I quit my job out of complete disgust in this company. What I post here is the 100% TRUTH!

Dollar Tree Levevelland fired a cashier for returning from her break two minutes early, but continues to keep their part time assistant who was turned in by me and a customer for doing cocaine on the job and drinking beer in the store. This was reported to the District Manager and he did nothing! This drug addict assistant is still working for Dollar Tree Levelland! The only one who really works in that store is the full time assistant. I feel so sorry for that poor guy. He is running that store and gets no credit for it. The store manager is a complete joke! He doesn't do anything! Just sits in his car all day or the office. Dollar Tree is a joke and has absolutely no morals!

Iam an ex dt employee I started at hp (wa) six weeks after it opened In my 7yrs of service dt went through more sm and asm than all the fingers and most of my toes most sm were good to work with as were some asm I too had my say when I felt things needed change and most lissened and gave me reason for or against I stayed working there because 1 close to home 2- I liked my customers 3- the hours suited me (I am over 60yrs) and money was not a key issue BUT I DID NOT LIKE THE FACT THAT NEW EMPLOYEES WERE HIGHER PAID THAN ME AND SOMETIMES GOT EXTRA HOURS TAKEN FROM THOSE WHO NEEDED THE HOURS TO LIVE
ANOTHER GRIPE i HAD WAS THE BONASES THE SM/ASM RARELY SAID THANKS TO THE STAFF THAT GOT THEM THEIR BONAS OR SOMETIMES THEY WOULD SHOUT A PIZZA FOR THOSE AT WORK THAT DAY what about those on days off etc. you kknow a scratchy ($1 or $2) wishing them luck would in my opinion be more fair --what do you think?--- well I am down under now enjoying the sunshine and birds one day head office may wake up and remember who helps make their wages

I am an A for Deals/Dollar tree in Illinois. I was hired by a SM who was dating the crack head daughter of the one full time A in the store I was told that when the acquisition took place for the deals store this recovering drug addict was allowed to work full time hours. The SM acted like he was either on drugs or mentally Ill.I immediately noticed a lot of employee theft and illegal activity from this particular A the SM and the part time AM. the A lived far away and comes to town and live with the part time AM for the first three or four days of the week where by the A works open to close those days then returns to her far away home. Things got so bad at the store the SM quit the company/DM did not replace the SM but used the full time AM for two months then the DM brought in one of his sports buddies from another store During this time the part time A who lives with the AM the two of them are fleecing the store daily and the A controls the store bringing family members in allowing them to take merchandise of the store for free. After the new SM came on board I thought things would improve it did not I contacted H.R. regarding the full time A and was told that that person was included in the acquisition. LOL one employee discussed in something as big as an acquisition I don't think so. But this A constantly calls the DM, RDM and others in the company this person has been with the company for six years and has no inspiration to increase her salary or her position I guess she don't really need to clearly she runs the store along with her lies,theft and manipulation. During the Christmas holiday we were told to promote the operation ? (collecting toys for Veterans children). to my disbelief April of this year the toys were not given to the vets the AM allegedly with the blessings of the DM and the SM allegedly gave the toys to a local school district. I believe she and her A partner in crime took the toys home. I will never promote another drive for anything for Dollar tree/Deals this is a fraudulent deceptive practice and unconscionable. The store is in the process of closing and the AM and the A took two huge boxes of merchandise and put it in the AM's car claiming to have paid for it but they did not. this is the type of corruption that goes on at this store. The SM left for the day and the AM covered off the clock the DM is aware of this situation but I guarantee you nothing will happen as a result of this dis chargeable offense. I am extremely sick of the crap that I see every day at this store I am not going to stay with this company after the move takes place. The pay sucks they want a million dollars of work out of certain people while paying them 5.00. There is no point in contacting the main office they don't care they like to hire dysfunctional unprofessional people and treat them like shit. In fifty years I have never worked for an employer who has such little regard for it's workers. Someone should file some law suits against these crooks.too much in-house corruption

The dollar tree is a joke.. i mean they pay me 7.35 an hr, make me wear a discusting green shirt with a collar that they dont even provide, and on top of that they want me to take out my piercing??...ya right everytime i take out my piercing i lose it and it cost more to replace it than i make in a single hr. im not going to take it out so i cant work two hours to pay to replace the dam thing. i cant believe people acctually take working there as serious as they do. im only working little jobs to get through college wich im almost done with.. thank god because a lot of the employees that work there are 40 and over.. what a joke!!!!

I work at DT and don't worry about any other cashier making more than I do. We all make the same. No raises EVER! We were told the company doesn't allow raises.People there for 7 years make the same as people there for 2 months. Can anyone tell me if this is true? Or is this made up by the store manager to keep payroll down?

Ok so I call for a pick up n da manager counts da money n she counts the amount n tells me to count it I tell her she ova five. She counts it again a second time fast n tells me it the amount. When we were busy she was on the phone sitting in the office... I kno it's your job... But on The FiRST OF THE MONTH!!! Wid all dem dam ebt cards!!!!Yea way to go manager. After it's closing she counts ma register n say I ova more than 3 dollars. She tells me I get written up. I ask her to count it out again n she does i tell her i found a flaw she ignores it and tells me to go vacuum. She calls me bac n tells me to sign it. WTF I get written up for a manager screw up. I can relate to you all about the dollar tree it is a hard place to work for they expect you to get a truck out in two days but then oh wait you didn't make sales so now you have no help you to do it. I think the dollar tree should pony up some more hours to make the store full and have people to run the cash registers a lot of people want to be in and out not see empty shelves and have to wait forever in a line. i read all these comments and i just can't believe how i can relate to all these comments they have happened to me. COME on DOLLAR TREE time to make a change!!!

DT was by far the worst job I ever had. The RDM was a dick and the HR manager had a stick so far up her butt and did nothing. I was an assistant manager in a store and another AM was sexually harassing our 16 yr olds. It took them a few months to remove him from the store.

I started with Dollar Tree in 2010, the store manager at time, was a woman who was stealing, was never there and is suppose to work 45 hrs aweek, bull shit, so we opened a new store, twice as big as the old store, three days before opening the sm quits, which was a blessing, the sm we have now, was you guessed it trained by the last one, I have not seen any stealing, but there is her favorites, and to hell with the rest, she flirts with the male associates that work there, hell she would probably screw them, if no one was in the store, and DM hell she would suck him if she could, they need to get rid of her, she is a piece of shit and no way a fucking store manager, she doesn't know how to treat you unless you have a dick between the your legs..

I was a SM until last friday. i have read most of the complaints on here and everyone of them is and will continue to happen as long as we continue to work for and shop Dollar GREED. I started in jan 09 as MIT and was given the 17,500 sq ft. PIG in CA in April of 09 because know other managers wanted that store. The training i received did not prepare me for the bullshit i was about to live with for the next 2yrs 8 months. The current DM is our 4th in that span of time. To say he knows his shit well...ahhh no. This guy thinks he walks on water but really he has his nose so far up the regional staff when he talks he smells like green dollar tree shit. This company cares little about the people who SLAVE for the minimum wage. Just an FYI BOB SASSER CEO took 26% pay increase this year...yea managers where lucky to see 2% and associates many got less then that. I was terminated for unacceptable work performance...WTF...I worked over 50 hours every week from the time i started, both my inventories i dropped our shrink and received bonus for doing so. We as managers are paid salary which they calculate at 45 hours a week. So every week we give for free 5 to 10hours to this greed machine. Do i sound mad nahhh just mad that the managers and associates don't fight back. The West Coast northern California Regime that runs region 9 well i have much to say about your work performance...but keep it that way. KARMA is a bitch and i have invested 2yrs 8 months. So will see, you could lose your job.. maybe, lose someone close...that would be terrible...or just poof one day all is over and KARMA has made you dust...The WORST COMPANY IN RETAIL ANYONE COULD POSSIBLY WORK FOR OR APPLy to. It is impossible to get anywhere and have any kind of respect at the store in Grove City , PA. The DM,SM, and one of the AM are the best of friends. They get the best hours, work together, and leave the rest for those that are not in their 'click' and they get away with it. You cannot complain to the DM because she will not do a thing if it might effect the SM adversely in any way. If the other AM's have a problem they get no help. One won't even complain because she knows it won't do her any good and she is leaving after she has her baby. The 'men' who are employed there never have to unload truck, that job goes to everyone else. The 'men' get the best hours and never have to stock either. They stand at the register and get paid to do nothing else. If the SM likes you then you can get away with talking in the office after hours without punching out for the day and she won't come down on you for anything. If she doesn't like you she will make remarks behind your back, give you the worst hours, never tell you that you have done a good job, only what you did wrong, etc. I have worked other jobs that were unfair but this one takes the cake with all she gets away with. I have worked there for two years and still haven't got a raise. I will leave when/if I can find another job in this area, which is hard to do now-a-days. Dollar Tree has no respect for their employees. A little bit of caring would go a long way, but they don't need to because they know jobs are scarse and they can just find another sucker to replace you. Its a shame.

I have read a lot of the coments left by current and former assocaiates of Dollar Tree and I have to say they are all 100% TRUE!!! I was a SM who worked for Dollar Tree over 11 years. 5 of those 11 years were under the name of Dollar Express. Dollar Tree says or tells you they care about you, but they really don't. 3% raises are a joke! Best thing about working for them was going on vacation. I really liked working with the crew that I had and the customers that came into my store. Just everytime the DM would come and visit he wouldn't have anything positive to say, just tell you all the crappy things that you can do better. I always told myself that working for this company is going to kill me if I didn't get fired first....Thank God I got fired!!! Yes there is a God! lol....I did something stupid like dating an associate, but so what! It didn't effect my job and no one ever knew about it until her husband came into the picture. Well never the less Dollar Tree isn't the place if you want to try and have some kind of family life. They will suck you dry and make you feel really old and worn out. The pay wasn't half bad I have to admit making 45K plus. Making that money comes with a lot of B.S. I worked an average of 47.5 on a good week mostly 50 plus hours. You never have the payroll to do what you need to get the job done. The store I left is still killing sales as well as killing the staff. I looked into there stockroom every now and then and it is a mess! I can't blame the staff, but the way the company is runned. They seen that the store was a gold mine and so they boosted the deliveries to twice a week instead of once and also doubled the freight levels as well! It was going to be a losing battle when it came to trying to say truck to truck. The store now has 2 outside storage containers to keep there extra supplies and freight. When will they slow down the frieght? Maybe when they open a new store in the area or when they just feel that there isn't anywhere to store the extra freight....I don't know, but I feel very sorry for the workers there because they are just don't get paid the money they well deserve! To all you former Dollar Tree Associates......I hope you found a better place to work and don't take the B.S. from anyone!!

I have worked for DT, as an A, for 2 years now, in PA and I make a whopping $7.96/hr. Fucking whoop. I enjoyed it for a while, mainly due to the work that I do. I enjoyed being physically active for my morning shifts. The SM at the time was alright. The only thing I didn't like, was that she had her little 'clique' at the store. The two female AM at the time, two female A as well would all just hang out and shoot the shit in the store, while I went about my business. They all got special treatment, like extra long breaks, excessive smoke breaks and whatever shifts they wanted, where I would not, because I wasn't in their 'clique' at work. I grew very dissatisfied with work, but it got even worse once the new SM and AM took over. First of all, the new SM has no backbone at all. She lets the AM practically do whatever she wants, and never says anything about it.The AM, oh God. The first 10 times I worked the same shift with her, now these 10 shifts were spread out over approx 2.5 months after they took over, I would notice the AM go from the office, out to smoke, to the phone with a friend, out to smoke, to the bathroom, to the phone again, out for another smoke, etc. This was all under an hour. Her lack of any attempt to get anything done, in tern only added to my list of things to do. She would also take credit for other people's work when the DM came in. Now since I don't agree with these things, I voice my opinion of the goings on, which of course puts me on their shit list. Now, I know they want to fire me, because they think I'm not productive enough, when I've worked the same pace since my first day, and there was never a problem in the past. These new idiots in charge of the store, even tried to tell the DM that. When he came to ask me why sunday morning productivity of food was low, I told him the truth. That I didn't know because they rarely ever have me in that section. Of course when I said this, the SM had her revenge by dropping my hours for a few weeks. Anyway, to end my rant, I'll follow up with Kerrie is a spineless wimp, who should not be in charge, and Amy is a fat, unappreciative, stuck-up fucking bitch that needs to stop constantly saying "I've been here 14 years." If you've been here 14 years, then why the fuck can't you get anything done? Alright, that's all folks.

I had been working for DT as an A for approx. 2 and a half years, and just recently quit my job. One reason is DT is the cheapest place I have ever worked. Not too long ago, I was scheduled for a 4 hour shift, closing that night. The SM knew before I even clocked in that I would not be working a full 4 hours(she was training a new AM), therefore, in DT world...I did not need my 10 minute break. When I clocked out(which was before the store closed, like I was told to do) I worked a total of 3 hours 20 minutes. I know times are hard and I should be grateful to even have a job, but grateful for what? If I am scheduled the minimum 4 hour shift, then I want my 4 hours!! I hear that the SM and AM are well taken care of with their bonuses, but I know for a fact that as an A, DT couldn't care less that we can't make a living on 9-15 hours per week. Just an FYI, in DT world when an A keeps getting close to 15 hours a week, they hire another A.

I was hired for stocking and register on 9-25-2011. I started on Sunday putting out freight then they had me come in to train on register they showed me how to sign in and count my drawer then they had me open my line then I tan register with barley any training well of course I messed up so when I cashed out they told me I was going to get written up so days went by and nothing so a different Manager was on and I came up short and she wrote me up the right way had me read it and anitional it and sign it then the mext time I was on the other manager came oit while I was still on and cointed my drawer and left the when I cashed out an hour layer they told me I was 6 dollars short. I was scheduled to work that weekend I called Friday she told me not to come in so I called Monday dhe told me to come in on Tuesday morning so I did amd she told me I was wrote up 3 times amd that I was terminated I didn't even see the other 2 write up nor did she discuss them or let me initial them I asked for copies and she told me no how fair was all that

I currently work as an associate for over a year and it just been shit. When I started working, my store manager was the coolest guy to be working with. He was strict but he still gave us a good feel work experience when he was around. He later left and then the my experience went to shit. Now I'm working basically 5 hours a week which really is a slap to the face since the new store manager is suggesting I don't want to work and bullshit. The policy also for night shifts are garbage as you need to have a car to be able to take the night shift and I haven't been give a raise what so ever. And the worse of it is the fucking customers. I don't want to get started. DT Management really treats us like dirt.

Well I did work for Dollar tree for 16 years yes 16 years and as I have finally concluded it must be mandated to harm, abuse, beat down each and every employee and whom ever is left standing we will have to continue to abuse not give raises or proper breaks but there fear of loss of jobs will be installed in them because of the economy. Puppets are all they want .I do not believe it is the bottom dollar because our complaints are not as wide as the customers complaints. I cherished my job with Dollar Tree for about 12 years and I do not know who died but they took all of Dollar Trees spirit accomplishments with them.I was ran off by the DM in my area, I actually had to make the choice if I wanted my resume to read fired or quit because I was going either way she already had my replacement in place I am an older employee and have vision problems and have not drove at night in years but they decided they would not work with my doctors limitations and started to write me up for unusual things not talking long enough on the phone LOL ,.I was even sleeping in my car to hold down my job when they started working me at night so to hold on to my job but after bringing in my last note from the doctor and it not being even considered and I was scheduled 3 nights in arrow.I figured they would rather see me dead>I could not comit suicde for them so I was forced out the door to stay alive, No job no way to go see my mother whom was put on hospice care today a state away which I have ask to be transfered for over a year to be with her.I even lost my hearing on the job and did not claim it as workers comp because I wanted my job 10 years ago. forgive not going back and spelling things right but have to much to say.To those who think you have a career with Dllar Tree think again.

My wife was an employee of dollar tree in Michigan for 12 years. She started as an AM and moved up to SM. That was up until this past January. She was at work one day as usual. It was truck day. As all other truck days went she called her AM's to have them come in at the time the truck was due to be there. But guess what? The AM's decided to set her up. My wife, having a heart condition cannot unload an 800 piece truck alone, but they decided nt answer their phones. When her daughter heard this she stopped by the store to check on mom and helped unload truck. Now the AM in charge of the coup immediately called DM and reported that the SM had someone working off the clock. My wife was terminated a couple days later. Also a young woman who was friends with said AM, (whom my wife wouldn't hire because she knew this person was a druggy and a thief) got hire by the AM who was acting as SM until one was found to take over. Now the newSM is relocating to a new store and guess who is taking over as SM? That's right the same backstabbing AM. Oh did I forget to mention when our house burnt and the wife called DM to get someone to relieve her, because at the time one AM had quit and the other was out sick, he told her NO! He said well there's nothing you can do about the house anyway! Fuckin asshole!!!!!!!! They (DT) want the impossible and the fine edge they work with is your health. Leave and don't look back, you'll be able to breath and hold you head up high. Just know your good, they'll make you feel like your not. Know you've done the best you could.

I am currently working at DT. Been there for about a month or so now. I actually don't find it that bad of a place to work. (Though I'm just relieved work at a place where I don't have to wait 2-3 hours to pee like SF if my managers couldn't come to me!) But it truly bothers me that my manager refuses to change the soap in the girl's restroom. I don't know if it was sitting on the shelf too long or something (because mine at home spells like it's meant to and the first time I used it), but it smells like sulfur! (I think sulfate was an ingredient) It smells like sulfur which makes me gag every time I use it, and I have to go through a deep lotion and/or sanitizer ritual to keep customers from gagging from the smell on my hands. I even had to keep a customer from buying that same type of soap, cause I gave it a test smell and it smelt like sulfur. I let her give it a smell and told her it was just that one cause mine at home was fine, and put it in damages. Based of what I read here, it wont shock me if it's back on the shelves tomorrow.

I was in the DT in Tilton New Hampshire about 3 weeks ago and saw the district Manager there.I thought it was halloween.She looks just like a witch.I swear to this.No lie.I also swear she is either smoke wackyweed on the job or is drinking.I have never seen someones eyes so bloodshot in my life.This lady is the worst DM I have ever seen in my life.She has no problenm yelling and putting down her management staff on the floor in front of the customers or anyone else.I was being rung out by a AM one day when she came in and told this AM she had to take out a nose ring that was the size of a pepple.It was so small I couldnt even see she had it in.The AM told her to let her finish ringing me out and she would just punch out for the day since her shift was up in 10 minutes anyways.I could not beilieve the the way this DM had talk to her.It was like she expected her to jump and just remove it in front of me.She was so rude.Where do you highier ups come up with your DMs.Maybe you should start drug testing them,And looking at why you have so many unhappy staff working for your company.

David White, SM and DMIT at the Renton Highlands in Washington is a disgusting lump of shit on everyone's shoe. Since working at this store, he has done nothing but dictate his duties as he sits in the office on his cellphone with his wife as he "works on the schedule" which consists of scrolling up and down on compass for 8 hours. There have been a couple incidents where customers have tripped/slipped, or somehow got hurt in the store and he has done nothing!! There was even a customer that had a stroke and he just avoided the front and hid while the AMs and As tended to him and called for medical help! This week he had three days off, when they have ~5 pallets of packaways from Christmas. KNOWING that it has to be done (days ago) he still took those days off, and now the AMs are paying for it, by having to work off the clock in excess of 20 hours this week UNPAID while he gets drunk for New Years...

I work at the Dollar Tree in Westfield Ma, All I can say is after working for this company for almost a year, It is the cheapest and unfair company i've ever had the displeasure of working for. Such a hypocritical company. I work the 5am stocking shift and you're expected to put out 7 to 10 hours worth of freight in a matter of 5 hours excluding your 11 minute break and clean up your entire section because the Store Manager and Assistant Managers can't do their job. If you don't manage to do one or the other successfully, you get bitched at or they give you the "Shitty" sections that no one likes. As you're putting freight out you have to clean and entire weeks worth of customers trashing the place because no AM OR SM recover at night. So you push all this freight out then get bitched at because you had no time to clean, but when you clean your section and can't put out 2 days worth of work in one day you get yelled at. I used to enjoy my job, until New AM got hired whom by the way get special privileges such as showing up 4 hours later because THEY don't want to open. Changing their schedules because THEY want to go to a last minute concert. When I don't wanna work on Friday, I can't change my shift to Saturday. This company is BULLSHIT. Schedule your employees a whopping 10 hours a week and expect them to put all the freight out clean everything. I forgot our nametags say Miracle Workers. How about they fire the fat ass closing manager who sits on her phone ALL night instead of recovering and doing PUTBACKS

Lol I worked dt for 4 mos. and realized whatta dead end job it is. So I went and found a 2nd job at best buy. Lol at anyone happy with dollar tree!!!!! As freight manager I make less than 10/hr. lol again. I get paid 11.50 at best buy and get quarterly bonuses. And I have been there less than 6 months. Dollar tree is secretly owned by Chinese people. Soooooo cheap. Only reason ppl don't quit is because the either cant pass a background check or drug test.

At the DT I work at our SM doesn't know how to do a schedule or have it done on time so were expected to call and continue to call if they aren't able to tell us at that time and if we don't because some of us have lives outside of dt, and if we miss a day because of it it's our fault. Plus she is very discriminating against certain people and how they look, she will tell one person we are hiring and then the next no because she doesn't like them for whatever reason. There is no kind of proper training when your hired it's pretty much just if you need help ask. Half of the time half the stuff isn't even being set to how asr shows it to be done, but set to how she wants it but yet we are expected to stock the shelfs and follow the asr but that's only if she feels like going by the asr. you can't pick and choose what dt policy's you want to follow. You can't continue to expect that things are ever going be done right if you don't even do it right yourself. How are your employee's supposed to know whats okay and whats not? Oh and if you have kids your supposed to either make dt a priority or your child. well I tell you what dt I will always choose my child over you or any job for that matter. Oh and i think the sm is a little sexist because she is always running her mouth to the guys that work there telling them they need to hussle and is always on their ass but never once has she talked to a female that way. I am currently looking for another job.

Oh how sad this is, i have been scaning through these complaints that have been coming in since 2009, and how sad it is that i can relate to 99% of them and i work at another DT. I work in OR, i get minimum wage. I have worked here since the end of August of 2011, i loved my job at first but that was until i realy got to see how things worked around there.
1) you may be full time but you still only have part time hours, 5 hours a day.
and only 2-4 days a week.
I was upgraded to recovery around December, and of course there is no change in pay for that, no biggy though.
but i hage 3 Am and one of them never does anything, and when she gets in troublel cause the store doesnt look like it is supposed to she yells at you for it, and tells you its all your fault, when she sits there with persona calls and texts all day. the other Am complain about her too. When she was gone for surgery it was the best month- 2 months we all had at work, no more walking on eggshells around her. one day with out even asing me if i could stay longer she forced me to stay almost an hour later, and kept bitching at me for not doing my job, when i was. I have hard many stories of her, and her getting people fired for not doing what she asked and its just stupid. I have gone in praciticly every time the called me in on my days off, stayed longer every time they asked me too even pulled an 11 hour shift one day, and have never been more then 2 minutes late clocking in, on top of that was always at work early. i have only missed 3 days of work all together, and when i could in for my third day cause i was sooo sick and in pain i couldnt work they started to make me feel all bad and harrassing me over it, a fellow co-worker harrassed me for calling in and ruining her days off, and much more. I put in more then i need to there and it doesnt matter in the end, i would leave but its hard to find a job and i do love some of the people i work with,but things need to change. I have gotten introuble many times for saying i need a pick up when i kept tryin to tell them i need what i cant say then they force it out of me then lecture me about saying it, i look down to get someones change look back up and my line is long all the suddon and i get introuble for not calling back up, and soo much more, they way they work that place is just not right. I will be filing complaints as soon as i can, and once i get another job i will be leaving that place and not looking back its not worth it. i have also been forced to work off the clock by my AM and then not get paid for it like she said i would. its all just bull.

i started at DT in may of 2011. I thought it would be a good store to work at because i had a few friends work there before. they spoke highly of the place like it was a good place to work. after i started i came to find out that all the managers there were two faced ; nice to their employees to there face but talk sh** behind there back. the reason im even on here complaining about the company is because i was fired unjustily. I was fired for mmissing one day because i had to go to an outpatient evaluation for rehab due to probation requirements ; i am not a drug addict or anything of the such.i was only late to work twice and called out 2 days within the 9 months i worked there. DT over works there employees for minimum wage. i was making 7.30 p/hr and they werent offering any extra money for bustting my a**. they expect you to work as hard as you possibly can for no money at all.

I was recently terminated from DT for"Not performing my job according to Appleseed."I had been the Freight Manager at the store in Globe,Arizona from the day it opened in 2005 till Mar. of 2012. No "Write-ups" until I came back from Sick Leave and found they had relaced me 6 days after I went out on sick leave. They violated FMLA by doing so, and used"work performance" as a Cover up to their FLMA violations. There is no end to what they do to cover their Corporate "Ass's!

I worked for Dollar Tree for 2 1/2 years. I was promoted to ASM after a few months, and went to a larger store. At this larger store, there were less hours to give to employees and the managers had to just suck it up and do all the extra work, on top of the work already assigned to the managers. All this for around 9 dollars and hour. I was fired when I went to the business next door to heat up my dinner because the microwave in our breakroom was broken. That's it, fired after 2 1/2 years for wanting a hot meal. I hope that all of you on this blog can find other jobs, Dollar Tree sucks! I won't shop there anymore, and I tell everyone I can to avoid shopping there.

sooo i just started working at dollar tree about 4 months ago. All was well untill i stood up for myself when i had did nothing wrong. My main manager of the store is very hostile and makes it so i dont even want to go to work. When i was hired i was NOT givin a rule book or anything about dress code. So do they just make up the rules as they go??? I just dont understand this place. I am part time and i understand im not going to have the same hours every week but when my schedual says i have a day off i make plans and i am constantly called and told i have to work. I am never asked i am demanded to come in and if i do tell them no the next day i get attitude from all managers and they watch me for any little thing i do wrong. I am paid shit i get treated like shit. I called coorperate to voice my complaints. But who knows.... I have been looking for a new job since the second day i started.I am TOO qualified to be working there i have 2 years of retail and 3 years of customer service in retail experiance. I cant wait till i get a new job so i can give every manager a peice of my mind.

I've been @ DT for a couple years now. I made ft asm in a year. Good right? Yeah not so much. The day i got the position I've gotten tge short end of the stick. My sm dont do shit, employees are sooo disrespectful and I'm expected to just sit back and take it and pretty much be the only one that gives a shit. Writing ppl up dont do shit. Nobody cares if they get written up. Then there's corp unrealistic goals. My store isnt huge, our customer base are regulars. Theres only so much that can get pushed out. AND THE DRIVE ITEMS OMG!!! Those are the STUPIDEST things. I know all of this goes towards sales but I don't know bout y'all but i cant force someone to soend their hard earned money on something stupid. Times are rough all over DT just needs to get off it.

I'm sick of No on doing the jobs they are paid for but being more than happy to tell you what you are doing wrong. Managers can seem to do no wrong. The store is trashed the floors look like crap but there is a few things on the floor so let yell at you. I'm so sick of everyone being a hyportic. The drive items are sooo stupid, some how i doubt a 60 yr old person wants glows sticks. They expect the world out of us but don't pay us enough. We just learned at our store that all raises depend on how well a store performs. It doesn't matter how hard you work, how many hours you put in, the fact that you are never late and come in when someone else calls off, and that you are a blessing to DT. If the store doesn't do well, you don't get a raise. If DT doesn't value my dedication and hard work, I will go somewhere that does. I am so tired of all the DT s^^^.

I too hate Dollar Tree just as much as every one of you.

I am an ASM in Texas. Less than a week after I started I visited my mom and said, "this will not be my career". Here is what I have learned from my experience...

5 of the 7 days a week I have one cashier and myself. That's it. So, while I'm busting my ass out there trying to keep things clean I'm doing it all alone. No assistance. And "Drive Items" = bullshit. I make up #s for my cashier to get a yes every time. And the X-Read Audit, fuck that. I do it the same time I do my Z-read when I leave.

When it's time to close, there is no more of me staying an extra 45 minutes to make it look good. I clean barely enough to be passable for the next day, fill the drinks, pick up any big items noticeable on the aisles, and I never vacuum unless told to. When something spills on the floor, soda, chemical I use a cardboard box unfold it, drop it and stand on it. I never mop the bathrooms. I do minimum there. Spray the toilet seats, put TP in and leave.

What REALLY chaps my ass is that you cannot get health coverage for 6 months and any major health issues you have are not covered for 2 years.

If there's ONE thing i DO like, it's that I can damage something, scan it, and take it home with me :) because they never check the damaged shit.

I've been a Full time AM (Freight mngr) for almost 5 years now, during those 5 years I've done nothing but work hard, never call in, work over time and bust my ass stocking/unloading those huge trucks every single week!!... and as for pay am still making shitty 9.92 an hour, while my co worker a (part time) AM that only closes the store and sits in office most of the time makes 10.70..And the freight mngr before me used to make 11.42 before he got fired.. And their bonus program...Lol what a joke, I think you'll have a better chance on winning the lotto.. Overall I am sick and tired of:


-Awfaul training newcomers receive.
-Lazy SMs that don't know what their doing but yet try to boss u around like a dog.
-All Their stupid high expectations with no payroll
supplied, and they can shuv that Appleseed up their....
-Busting my ass And going the extra mile for no type of appreciation.
-Expected to have a smile and merry attitude while Rude customers let their kids run around store making chaos.
-Bad pay. 7.25 for new hires .
-Having to suck up to your Bloodthisty DM to get by.
-Offering a Senceless drive item to each customer. Me, (Would you like to purchase some bubbles today?). 70 yr old man, (???...).

Nevertheless Over the past 5 years Dollar Tree has been more of a headache than a pay check, and as the days go by my hate grows towards this dump of a company.

In those eleven years I worked under three managers and countless assistant managers and never had a problem with any of them until the new manager and new freight manager took over the store. Now, I stuck up for myself when the stupid freight manager got in my face and started yelling at me and I got fired. 11 years I'm there and no problem, until this pot smoking bitch. I should report to the DM that she comes to work high often, and smokes a blunt out back a lot of mornings before she starts work.

I gave 8 years of my life to Dollar Tree. Was "Top Gun" in the district 3 out of my 6 years as store manager. Last year, I was "given" an assistant manager from another store. This was the first time I was not allowed to choose my own assistants. The DM was apparently in love with her cuz in his eyes, she could do no wrong. I had a feeling that she was planted in my store as his personal spy. Well, nobody could stand her! I had a total of 3 assistants quit, and all of my cashiers quit as well! About a week and a half ago, the DM shows up and fires me. So in the end, the DM got what he wanted. His girl is now manager. Good luck is all I can say! The only things that have happened since she has been in the store is: Shrink has increased, turnover rate has skyrocketed, and customers hate her! But being a Christian, I will say this: God will bless me and lift me up higher than if I would have stayed with this total joke of a company. The bottom line used to speak the loudest, but now all they want are SM's who will kiss the DM's butt. If you are not a butt kisser, do not manage for this company!

I was a store manager with the company for 4 years and was terminated by a new dm for ringing on a cashiers drawer after she had a medical emergancy, i finished her transaction and that was all. They said i violated policy, the new dm had a friend that was put in my store after i left and the store has fallen apart. it is all up to the dm that you have if you have a fair one you are ok if not then watch out. i always made bonus and dropped the shrink from 3.9 to 1.6 in three years also made top gun then a new dm came and it all changed she was out to get her friends from her old district in as store managers, she was a mew dm and it happened out of 8 stores 7 now have her friends running them within a year. She is also sleeping with the loss prevention from our region. The rdm just lets whatever happen as long as he makes his numbers, joke they were always taking my good payroll and putting others over hours onto my store, so no matter how good you do it is not ever your store that really shows they help their favorites.

Currently a SM. Have worked for 3 other retail companies. Dollar Tree is the WORST company I have been with. If you have worked for a large retailer, DO NOT apply with this company. There are no rules to control what the RDM and DM have to follow. The companies legal staff is very large do to constant lawsuits from ex employees because of their unfair labor practices. We run our stores on minimal hours which in itself is not a bad Idea, but the SM has to work many hours in various jobs to compensate for the hours . Because I don't get along with the DM, he's a monkey boy, he has been trying to terminate me for the past year. He has given me 2 reviews that were based on lies. Haven't had a raise in 2 years. No one cares. As long as the store is profitable and stock is rising, no one cares. They want to play with the big boy's but they act like a bunch of backwards punks. I've made bonus every month for 2 years so I don't really care about the raises. I have great AMs and some good cashiers. Unfortunately I have to cut hours in order to ensure the store makes it's SPEH. The expectations are a joke. They are put into place so the DM can either write you up if doesn't like you or fire you. I've wasted 6 years of my life with this company. Will be leaving soon. PS. to the DM who posted about firing people, let me know what district you have, if you have the balls that is. It's been my experience you don't.

I currently work at dollar tree in Torrance ca off of Hawthorne and lomita . Don't get me wrong I love my job and half the staff I work with honestly do there job. Others are lazy and should not work there but hey they do. I've been there 5 months and since I started working there I was being harassed by one of the AM I was scared to say any thing because I had just started and in this economy out here its hard to find a job so I put up with it because I rarely seen this manager but when I did see him even for 5 min he would say really inappropriate things . Even working with him when he would say them and I would always tell him no and say im not interested im married stop saying stuff like that he would get mad n ignore me the rest of the time so if I needed manager help he wouldn't help me I was stuck doing everything alone . Finally I grew the guts to tell another manger because this situation was becoming very stressful I would come home mad I was becoming depressed it was bad I was even scared to tell my husband because of things I know my husband would have done to him . The manager I told then told the SM and he contacted the DM it took the DM 1week after being told to come in and talk to me and his excuse was because there opening a new store . He took my statement and told me he was going to talk to the manager n get his statement of what's going on and just told the SM to not schedual me to work with him at all its been mabey a month n half since this has been reported my SM quit because he found a better job props to him for getting out but now no one does what they should how they should . Only a small amount of us . Any ways im not the only girl who he's harrased in the store there's other employees who are just scared to say anything he's called my house accusing me of taking things when I walked in front of him he did a purse check there were other employees around to defend me no one at work likes him because he's lazy he doesn't do his job tight people and employees have complained about him to the DM and nothing has been done within this whole time since the DM took my statement I've gotten sick with anxiety attacks n depression i couldn't go to work i was off for almost 2 weeks my husband called the DM stating i was sick and all he said was this is an employee situation not a family matter (wtf im married and it effects my home life home bring the stress home of constant worry) the manager was saying that the DM was saying if we changed shifts with any one that we were fired i called the DM and asked he said he never said that even after that he didnt do nothing to this manager all in all now to this day his manager works there and it is reported that this manager has now harrased a customer i fill very sorry for her i can only imagine what's going to happen they did nothing for me i hope they help her . These people must fill stupid now because they should have done something when it happened to me not have waited . I wonder how many other people or employees he's done this to the store has been open for 1 1\5 many different employees that have gotten fired or quit we don't always get sale customers so i just wonder if he's said anything to any one else and there been scared or have not returned to our store because of this .

Your right about that, I've worked for this freaking company for 6 years, choose to not be an AM, and still make under 8.00 hr. Now that's F**ked Up!! Just went on medical leave for elbow surgery and been gone less than 2 months and while gone apparently they fired me, no write ups, nothing. The only way I found out was got something from Wells Fargo asking what I wanted to do with my 410K, now that I'm separated from DT. What a f**ked up way to let an employe know their fired!!!

I am the wal-mart guy that had his second third fourthg and fifth interview. i was hired 9/10/2012. Did my training in Watertown NY, It took 5 weeks to get my first expense check . It was like $600. had to make a stink to get it and then was made to feel poort for needing the money. My training store, a former DM, was brain washed and said he never claimed mileage because the company had been so good to him. I quit 2 weeks ago because a mountain of reasons. You all know the reasons. I was the guy that was going to try to make a differance. Hard to make a change when the associates have no hope of a future. I was not told about the hiring practices, during training. Hire all part time , then you don't have to pay benifits of any kind. My DM was a freakin mad man. Absolutely no concern for peoples needs. A robot. Sorry, I drank the kool-aid.

Me again, the Wal-Mart guy that drank the kool-aid. Oh yeah , I forgot, when I quit as a salaried member of management, somehow they switched me to an hourly and shorted me 23 hours on my check.
I can't believe how many people have been done wrong by DT. I was never treated this way at Wal-Mart. Every bussiness has it's problems, but none have this many.
WOW, we need to do something. How about it. Any ideas, class action suit, etc....

I have been working for DT for 5 yrs now , never had a issue with them, i always had the same amount of hour's each week. Since the old SM left i have been bounced around week by week , more hour's then less hour's and i never know when i am working . Each week keep's changing. When they need the help tho who do they call "me". I feel like telling them to kiss my ass do the shit yourself or take the hour's because job's are hard to come by . i have alot of mixed feeling's about it. And for the HR department they can kiss my ass to , i will never go to them again.

Dollar Tree is an ok store, we do pretty good business, it is the manager's that really suck. Our DM decieded to make up he's own rule's. If you are buying something a manager has to ring you up right ?? well, he said a manager has to ring us up but each item at a time with assco. number and if you have 10 item's they have to ring it up 10 times. bullshit we are going to lose alot of business now because we buy alot of stuff there . If your the only manager on i was told you can buy something but have the cashier sign it. Well we can't do that anymore so now i am out of a dinner everynight i close the store. There has to be something done about this . I want to go to the labor department of our state and report the abuse . Fuck our corp. there much of asshole's as he is .

I have been with Dollar Tree for over a year and i was there for two seasonal before being hired in. My store is a joke! Everyone talks behind each others backs and is trying to get everyone fired. Our store has an opening for AM full time. I told my SM i wouldnt touch that job with a ten foot pole. Cashiers are the FACE of Dollar Tree thats what my DM said.... Sure got a funny way of showing it. We get crap hours and wages plus they want u to do so much work in a four hr span. We cut hrs all the time to make pay roll. Its a joke! We dont follow the manuel at all. We have to as cashiers put the go backs after the manger collects them. Its not a hard job but if i remember the rules are we are to be byy our registers at ALL times. Dollar tree suck! Its not our mangements fault its theirs. Your company YOUR problem. Under cover boss!! Just saying. No one wants to work for dollar tree.

They want the truck out in "48" but give us no fucking hours or ppl to work it. Then on top of that they want to backroom to be empty, yet there is no one to fucking work it. They expect the cashiers to finish u-boats of freight while cashiering. I mean the place is a total joke. Our DM is a total piece of shit says one thing then after thats finished always wants it done a different way. The upper management is completely fucked at DT. Im talking about the guys above the DMs. Cause the DMs are just a bunch of puppets as well just with a little higher salary.

Worked at DT for seven years, moved up to pt asst than to FT assitant. Went through 6 SM's during that time. Newest SM we got was a transfer from a NEW store and had no experience or know how, she was hired as a pt assistant. Then they told her she wasn't getting promoted, so basically they put her in charge without the pay or benifits of an SM, i gotta tell ya that doesn't do a lot for someones mood. All her BS on top of poor traing all around and our store was screwed. I was the only one left from when i started and was trying desperately to keep everything running.... I got fired any way. I was making $2 more an hour than our new "SM" think that had anything to do with it?

DT is the worst place ever. they treat their employees like dogs. they give bullshit hours that nobody can live on. the dms are assholes. they cant ever make up there minds. they always want you to push freight but when u put too much out they bitch. all i have to say is FUCK DISTRICT!! they need to come work a store for like 1 month as an associate and then tell me what they think. your paid to yell and expect us to do good in the store bullshit. try saying lets do this not bitch out everyone and then a week later ask why that got moved in the first place when they told you to. this company needs to learn how to respect the help and not abuse it. a bunch of worthless assholes is what the ceo and dms are like. best advice i can give is even though people say dont work there go and work for walmart way better pay and hours.

I work for dollar tree in ocean county nj. My manager says that there is no seniority at the job. New people come in and get more hours than workers that have been there for 2 years. There is no money to be made working for the dollar tree store. What is wrong with giving the cashiers 25 hours per week. You hire so many people to cover a schedule, who wants to stay on for 10 to 15 hours per week. The cashiers are the forgotten people of this company. We are awesome at my store. The customers love us and praise us to the store manager. Thats as far as it goes. You cannot call corporate and give praise to the workers because the phone message left goes nowhere. Its shocking to know that greed is what plays the part here. Corporate gets it all and we who run the stores get nothing.

I absolutely hate ordering from Dollar Tree's website.
After ordering, I received an email stating several of my items were being shipped to another Dollar Tree NOT anyway near my area. When I emailed in to get it fixed, no knew what to do. I spoke to a manager who said she would cancel me order and I had to redo the whole thing again. So I redid the entire order. The next morning, they confirmed BOTH orders were shipping. RIDICULOUS. After dozens of calls and emails, it finally just today got resolved. The managers could not help me with anything, I got dozens of automated responses. I did my part. Now I'm waiting to see what comes in the mail before I issue a huge complaint about how much they've billed my credit card.

the cashier: yay! u get to wear a green polo style shirt (if ur a female, good luck on finding a green polo that doesn't make u look like a green blob AND is comfortable to work in), can't find one? that's ok, u can BUY a green polo shirt from dt with the LOGO on it! (btw, no matter what size u get, its going to be too wide and too short, hope u like flashing ur ass to customers when u bend over) over that u are expected to wear a black paper apron... "paper?" u say. why yes! paper! it's CLEARLY not any kind of material known to man and tears just like paper. now to ur station! u get to work the register! and everything within site of the register...oh and don't forget ur "apple seed" check list sheet. they're gunna want u to stock a few things, and also pay attention to the register, around which they've piled and crammed and stacked as much "impulse" stuff around as possible and that ur expected to see over and around. wouldn't it be handy if there was a bell at the register that customers could ring when they're ready to check out? well too bad, those aren't allowed. did u notice all the lovely windows that items are displayed in? well at certain times of the day the sun's gunna shine right thru them! its gunna get a lil toasty, good thing u brought water! oh wait, no liquids allowed by the register...oh well. good thing there's AC right? always set at a cool 20 degrees whatever it is outside!...oh wait its 107 outside...and there's no fans at the register...and the sun is coming thru...oh well, keep ringing out those customers cuz the only person to help u (usually just the manager) is busy cleaning shit off the walls in the bathroom!

stocker: is the truck going to be late, or early this week? WHO KNOWS?! DM's not very happy about the back room still having boxes in it...what's that? can't give us anymore hours?? we're not making sales?! but how can that be?! we have a full store...oh wait thats right...we didn't get enough hours LAST week to get everything out. don't worry, after 6 years u'll be rolling in the $$$ at a grand hourly total of $7.96...

i got wronglfuly teminated stating i denied a bag check .ricky espada lied and told Bob the dm that i cursed him and refused a bag check.They said it was caughtht on camera .i asked to see the camera for proff and they denied to show me any proff of me doing that. i was terminated for something i never done and ive been working there for 6 yrs and never had any problem until now which was so unfair.ive been violated and disrespected for no apparrently reason!!!

Here I thought this shit just went on in my region. I once was an area manager and it's nothing but politics and Ass kissing from SMS and up. There is no company policy...it's your DM and RTMs policies...which change fucking daily! Seriously want to leave this company..they expect everything for nothing in return. I've read every blog and must say I agree with everyone! I've now worked in 14 different dollar trees helping out, covering vacations, preparing for visits and every store has it's own rules! I have a great staff that works their asses off..most of them. But always loosing the best ones because they finally got the balls to say Fuck Dollar Tree. Hopefully I will grow a pair soon and follow them out the door!

We have become too big and too top heavy at corporate. People are making policy and constantly changing procedures while in reality they have no idea of what it truly takes at store level to get the job done. Our store employees, ASM's and SM's care more about the company than those running it. Much of what they do violates any and all moral decency. They don't deserve to have their high and mighty corporate jobs. They are in it for the quick buck. Morale among the SM's is currently at the lowest point it has ever been and will remain that way.

Two of the managers at my store have no idea how to close the store. One half of the pair leaves the freezer door open then blames others for her mistakes. Mike, the new manager, hides in the back and eats the whole shift and has the nerve to say others aren't working. I spend 9 hours every weekend fixing that store up. I come in Sat and Sun to nothing being done. I have to fix the whole store in a short period of time and get a ration of BS if I leave one thing not finished. I only get 5 hours to fix the store up. The DM and RM down here are the biggest backstabbers I've ever seen. My old manager, who was really cool and understanding, got moved from my store for this "Mike". Now "Mike's" wife is working at the store to spy on my old manager. Yeah, real nice. They plan to fire my old manager as soon as she leaves for maternity leave. My $7.67 an hour isn't worth my time, but damn it, I need money. You win for now Satan Tree

I am a new employee at DT. It is shocking to see these comments because no matter what state the comment is from, it is pretty much the same as my experience. First, I was shocked to find that they only hire part time (15-20 hours a week) at just over minimum wage. Company "ethics" policy states that employee respect is a priority, which is clearly not accurate. Cashiers are treated without trust or respect - no access to liquids during the shift, one 10-minute break for shifts up to 5 1/2 hours, seriously inadequate air conditioning, no benefits, seriously inadequate staffing. You are made to watch videos before you can begin your actual job but literally every rule or policy you learn is ignored the moment you begin your job (unless it is a policy or rule that would benefit you). Look up the company's profits and the CEOs income for last year. This company is just shy of running sweat shops. Anyone know how to get unionized?

I worked for the company for almost 9 years,started as a cashier and worked myself up to an SM. I am so glad I'm out of that place,quitting was the best decision I ever made. You were treated like a dog unless you were in a "clique". There was such a mean girl mentality that it was like being in high school. When I complained about certain behaviour I was ignored. I was given no control as a manager,couldn't give raises to the cashiers that deserved it and was told I couldn't even schedule people more than 20 hours a week! I couldn't find good stockers because honestly,who wants to work only 5-10 hours a week because the company is so tight with payroll?I was never given extra hours to train new associates and it showed. I was constantly having asm's quit and received next to no help,which left me having to work up to two weeks or more without a day off. My ft asm was moved to another store during the busy holiday season while I was 8 months pregnant and I again received no help but was expected to put out trucks in the same impossible timeframe with next to no help.The managers that were considered the "favorites" by the dm got the best stockers and cashiers and would sometimes get sent an army to help out their store. The appleseed is a joke,especially if you have no staff to implement it. Although my experience was rough,it is even worse for the sa's who are paid next to nothing to do the impossible.I do not miss Dollar Tree at all.

dollar tree sucks. they want way too much from anybody who works there. they pay very little and want a lot. they say they are "fair" ...ha ha, what a joke. they don't even know what the word means. the dms are big dickheads and don't pay sick time to employees who have it to use. corporate and dm's there think they are "GODS". they are not "gods", they are "toilet bugs". i gave my time there for ever 7 years. i hated every day of it. i was humiliated and felt like crap every day. they do it to everybody , not just me. they are in it for the money and that's it. they don't care about the "operation Homefront" they do for the troops. they want the extra revenue. i would advise everybody to hit them in the wallet. do not shop there any longer. shop other places and tell them what we think. help us, the workers of Dollar Tree in our fight to get equal rights and be treated fairly. help us get the pay we deserve and the credit we deserve. do not give them another dime!!!!!!

I'll give my brief experience of working at Dollar Tree here. It was less than a year, but this was my first job I'd managed to get, and wanted to pour into it, hoping for good results to come out. I quickly learned just how foolish this was of me. Our store was understaffed, only me and 3 other guys (besides the managers) to do stockwork, and our cashiers barely lasted 2 weeks. We lost one of the stockers a few months after I joined, and one of the other stockers began getting more hours at his other job, so he stopped working with us as much, leaving me and one other person to push out freight. It was bull shit, and didn't help we had an incompetent SM, and an assinine DM. They expected us to run the damn store, getting things stocked perfectly, and even when the store was totally stocked, they'd complain about the stock in the backroom, saying "This needs to go out" when we have no room for it. My raise I just got not long ago, was only 9 cents, so I went from 7.35, to 7.44. That's absolute crap! However, my assistant managers kindly explained why some of these things happen

1) The SM and DMs get bonuses if we have no freight in the back room

2) Money that doesn't go towards wages and raises for store employess, gets pocketed by the DM

So in short, what I learned from this, is that Dollar Tree is a company that corrupted by the people above, to such a horrible degree. I'm grateful I found another job, and they felt truly sorry for what I had to endure, as well as my other employees have to endure over there. The DMs and up want to get as much money as they can, flat out, so much they don't give two shits about the store level employees. So long Dollar Tree, and you can expect I won't be working for you ever again!

Been with the company about a year. Im an Assistant.

1- Making an issue about "having receipts attached to the sodas/drinks we buy on break is foolish. At no other company have I ever seen this.

2- Writing people up for everything especially being 2 minutes off for a time punch is dumb.

3- Dress code is lame. If you don't spend the 20 bucks it costs to buy an actual Dollar Tree emblem shirt you have to wear this paper thin apron with the DT emblem on it. I see companies bigger then this with their employees wearing casual clean whatever colors they wanted.

4- Cutting hours. I'm sorry but if I see 2,000 a day for sales it miffs me why ONE person loses a five hour measly shift.

5- The managers being so damn ANAL about everything acting like its the Pentagon. "Oh, look at that. If our DM came in would they be happy?" And this can be for a small smudge on the floor.

6- Letting the good workers go and keeping the bad ones. I just seen TWO great employees let go hard workers while the slackers who pull no calls no shows are still right there. Lame!

Taking on a job with a better schedule, better pay (that even pays weekly at that)and less responsibility (im a manager) then Dollar Tree. Gone will be the high expectations for little pay, the skeleton crew staffing, etc etc etc.

Here is a copy of the letter I sent to corporate today. Please read and comment as I sure most many of you can relate to most if not all said. Thanks!




To Whom It May Concern;

What qualities SHOULD a manager possess? Well.....organization, confidence, respect, and people skills top MY all time list. You’re paying these people a salaried wage each year to run your stores, as it is my understanding. They must MANAGE each daily operation of the store and balance more then a few things at once. With this being said, I fail to comprehend how you could place the store manager in store #5130, Mill Creek Shopping Plaza South Portland, Maine in this position.

Ladies and gentlemen, I would like to present you with a math equation. This store opened in July 2013 and this writing is being produced in December 2013. That is five months in business. Fifteen employees have LEFT this store since that time. Granted, two were terminated (more details on them later) and three were hired, came in and did I-Learn and then never showed up or were heard from again but STILL this is a very large number of people....don’t you think?

What we have here is a manager who is VERY intimidating, moody, and often times simply RUDE to both customers AND employees. This IS not and SHOULD not be an acceptable standard for any store manager (or assistant, for that matter) at any of your stores. The two employees who were terminated were accused of violations that other employees still AT the store have committed and those are; missed time clock punches, lateness, and no call no shows. If i were to name the individuals who committed these acts who are still employed, it would, I’m sure, prove pointless so ill simply give you the details as I have an leave it at that because the point of that is EVERYONE should be treated FAIRLY as far as the standards go at all times. She obviously ISN’T doing that. Also, THREE of the people who left were ASSISTANT MANAGERS and all left within the same 90 day block of time (Oct, Nov, Dec) and each was a person of quality, organization, and simply good character that the non management associates like myself looked up to and liked. Now the store manager is down to herself one assistant who says he will be looking for “other opportunities” after the first of the year. Watching this place go down the tubes staff wise has been quite a heartache considering i helped set the store up from the first day. There are three newer employees who are also seeking “other opportunities” as the fore mentioned assistant and I myself am also on the hunt for different work.

I do hope the writing of this letter shed some light on what goes on at that store that you aren’t able to see. There’s no way you could unless you were actually there and i realize there are a number of stores under the umbrella that you have to monitor.

I am very happy to see that this is not just myself with these feelings. Lets discuss pay. My Store in upstate NY just had to raise the minimum wage for all cashiers to 8.00 per hour. I, an ASM, or very recently former ASM made a total of 8.83 per hour. Thank God I have additional monthly income coming in. Please tell me how all of that responsibility lets the asm's make only 83 cents more per hour than non management staff. In addition, why is it that when we are forced to work at other stores to fill in for people there is no compensation for time and travel? Thank you for the experience but goodbye!

The Dollar Tree in Philadelphia located at Broad & McKean is a bad store! Members of management do whatever they want. Cut hours on the good employees, hires neighborhood crackies to work there. The best mangers that store has had were Dave Smith, and Danielle. One of the FT Asm has nails longer then Freddy and thinks she does more work then everyone else, we will refer to her as the claw! The claw fixes peoples drawers (her favs) so it doesn't show their over/short. Many associates and some members of management are intimidated by her. Some call her ghetto! The store has great associates it just needs new management!

Not going to lie, I hate working at Dollar Tree. I'm the only male working at our store, and I always get shafted for time off because they need me more for freight than anyone else. I run the entirety of the food department and only make 7.38, working there for more than a year. The only good thing is that they work around my college schedule, but that was a pain in the ass in the beginning. If you're a young guy working at Dollar Tree, prepare to get the short end of the stick.

Hey guys. I work at a dollar tree in San Jose CA. I've been there almost 2 years. Started as a cashier. Now I am crosstrained as recovery, cashier, and occasional stockhand. I get paid minimum wage (10.15) and am sooooo tired of it. The AC in our store doesnt work so its usually around 75-80 degrees. We HAVE to have a restroom for customers even though they literally shit on the floor, graffiti the walls, and break the bathrooms. We just got them doze and after a day they were broken again. The DM disliked me because my voids were high (because customers change their mind and one of the managers always bitches when I call for pickups or change or backup or postvoids) I was originally a seasonal cashier for Christmas and im the only one they kept from seasonal. Only like 5 other people have been there longer than me. Im the fastest cashier and yet it still seems like im just another piece of shit to the higher ups.

Dont get me wrong I love the manager bit she's transferring soon. Shes taking our freight manager with her, thank god hes such a dick. Nothings ever his fault. He always blames someone else even when someone from his team dumps a box he says it was someone else's team. He also criticizes my recovery work when he never even closes to know how difficult it is.

I've only stayed so long because I love my coworkers (most of them) and the whole 8 decent customers we have that are regulars and arent overly self righteous pricks.

I swear. Customers who come in expecting to be waited on and hand and foot need to be bitchslapped.

Soon the managers putting me in the system as a part time Assistant manager. Just doing it do the resume opportunities cuz the wjole 85 cents more isn't really that impressive.

I worked for DT for about a year. At first, I was happy to get hired knowing that the economy was so bad. Sure I was fortunate that my SM gave me an opportunity. Here I was told I'd be working about 15 hours/week and more if it gets busy which I am fine getting extra hours I got bills to pay.

Starts out nice around the holidays but I thought we are suppose to treat all the employees like family. My complaints are they can cut your hours and they never go over the store policies or the employee handbook to you. I work at Deals over in Ohio.

Pretty much, you have to find out on your own the red flags of this company. I have a college degree but they rather hire dumb managers so equal opportunities? Haha, no you are not considered if the DM feels he/she doesn't like you. Only thing you get as a store associate is a crappy paycheck.

Let's see, I get yelled at when there's a long line. Ok this woman had a large family but my SM yells at me like a God reprimanding a sinner. There were times I wanted to call for back up but how if the customer keeps asking questions. I don't want to be rude so my SM scoffs saying ok verbal warning. Whatever and when you do call for backup they get pissed off saying they are busy doing other stuff.

You can't win when you're not in charge you are simply an AT WILL peon who can lose your job for anything when you see that other workers are part of the SM's clicks he/she will cover up for them because they like them. Drug addicts and NC/NS for employees some get a slap on the wrist.

I see many workers come and go they get fired for clocking out 10 mins. You must clock at 11 mins exactly or you get written up. What else, you must clock in at 30 minutes when returning from lunch. You have to pay separate transactions and have a receipt for each thing you buy on breaks.

I get customers who walk up to me and the policy is they can request for up to 6 balloons. More than that requires a 24 hour notice. People will see the loophole and have relatives come into the store to purchase 6 per each person. No one else is willing to do it as they are busy talking to friends. They laugh by slandering other workers they don't like behind their backs- leave them hanging.

We get angry customers who don't know the return policy. It must be an even exchange and people will demand store credit. Cashiers do not have access to enter multiple items without an AM or DM there. Shoppers will get mad if line takes forever; what to do if a customer buys $100 worth of wine glasses you are stuck helping them make sure they don't break and wrapping them up or finding boxes.

I work mid-shift so its busy and have to deal with people buying their lunch for work, EBT shoppers who are rude to you, shoppers that will steal stuff, and DM will have employees push sales. You lose the candy bar you get immediate write up and customers get so annoyed when we ask if they want to buy silly string or bubbles. Really?

I get yelled at by welfare people who change their minds and ask me to void out items. DT higher ups won't allow no more than a few voids on your 5 hour shift. I have more 2000+ customers per week and it's considered stealing. I become so frustrated and it's your fault if too many merchandise sales when shit is missing price sticker labels or wrong prices show up.

Nothing aggravates you more than customers not having enough money to leave you a cart of go backs. You get cussed out for people wanting to use the bathroom and it's occupied by a customer. We are part of DT yet people walk in assuming everything must be $1. People will make up weird stories about buy 1 get 1 free or make xerox copies of coupons to get as much discounts as they can. Problem is you have to key enter the amount the customer gives you.

Now when the DM or RDM shows up you are under pressure. They have to hear you greet every single customer. It's easy to get distracted with someone in your face asking you questions about their purchase. You can get written up for things like "I didn't hear them say hello. What about the daily announcements? Did they push a sale for the weekly featured item? The line is long and people are not happy--write them up they should call for back up when you see more than a few."

Rarely you see people stay very long and most of my co-workers are miserable showing up to work. The policies are too strict and you can be late for work for major car accidents, medical condition, and family emergencies they don't care because you have show up to work. Did I mention the favoritism that is involved each time I'm at work?

You go above and beyond for customers. They are happy so they will come back as a regular shopper each week. Good deeds recognition? Oh please, it's usually the workers they like that feel special. I don't care and you get no incentive for selling the most featured items. You have to have close to no voids to even get Cashier of the Week. No prize just a piece of paper saying Yay you are SPECIAL and maybe just maybe we will give you some more hours.

No PTO for part-timers and if you are short $5 automatic write up. You are over a certain amount that's another write up. You are allowed to clock in 5 minutes early no problem but they promised us more hours at least 5 extra hours a week but they hire new people so workers are not happy.

DT makes a profit from items that are MADE IN CHINA. They are capitalizing on their profits and fiscal year ends they do great. Alright so RDM and RM selects who gets the bonus which isn't much. You see the handbook no one really gets any decent vacation time. People will get away with their schedule and request time off. The ones who are reliable workers will be asked to cover their shift.

I agree with most of you former or current employees. This company sucks and you don't even get a pat on the back for a job well done. You work there to make this company a huge profit and you are not important. Other employees get away with shit yet a simple misunderstanding is a write up. You can't stand there, you have to move around, and when it gets busy you can't leave your register.

I often question my morality and sanity. No wonder people are suicidal working for Dollar Tree or go crazy they stop showing up to work. Stingy and greedy corporate managers who keep demanding more and more. It's a shame you can't keep good workers but you'll keep the bad workers who suck up to managers and be rude or ignore customers. Keep watching the cameras DMs that's all you do besides nit pick on how the store should look like or praising your favorite employees. Next time you wonder why sales are low or so bad remind yourself that you screwed yourself by letting go of workers who cared about their job and all we wanted is to feel appreciated or get recognition.

They keep opening stores left and right........ it doesnt matter u know how many ppl apply at a dollar tree store u are easily rreplaceable .... I am a asm 10.50 hr ... they gave me a crew with zero experience and attitude they hired a sm who is a chick so she doesnt do any heavy lifting I come to tje store its a mess and they blame it on me u only gave us 4 hours to do a freight wtf ! I am just sick so employees complained about me customers etc customers iny area are ghetto as fuck to begin with they think I should treat them like royalty for a dollar ! Crazy !!!!! Employees wow my grandma works harder than these youngsters !!!! Either I work with wat I got or im putting my 2 week notice in ! I need tje cash flow but I cant have the stress I get no help dm was pissed greqt cuz he finally gave us 6hours to push freight ! Unbelievable im just dissapointed in myself cuz I can do better satan tree

Dude ! They hired like 30 ppl only 10 stayed and they all sucked !!! Only like 5 decent ones oh and dont forget dt doesnt drug test !!!! I was suprised cuz they kept the ppl who just kissed ass and chicks that were hot !!! I was like wow selection is based on superficial judgement not the actual work well im off to job hunt and hopefully by the end of the month I get another job cuz everyone in here is right !!!
